how do i convince my mom to let me get roaches???

I was able to keep a snake hidden from my mom for a month.. I think you can keep the roaches without them escaping lol.

Just make sure you keep the lid on whatever you're keeping them in. Not sure if they can climb though..that'd be a good thing if they cant.

from what ive heard, they cant climb any smooth surface whatsoever :p (the males can make fly attempts tho, never get very far)

Blaptica dubia can definitely not climb plain surfaces.
Btw: i was able to hide a adult rat for several weeks :D
But as she agreed to have roaches you won´t need to hide them anyway

soo, ive been bugging the crap out of her today about it, and heres what she said: "if i ever see one loose in the house, out they go, and you with em!" i dont think she'll actually kick me out.. :p

I take it your not old enough to move out yet?

Do you have a attic? I say try to keep them under your bed, with a couple other feeder bins. She should be more worried about crickets escaping. I swear every time I go out into my garage I have a cricket colony trying to establish itself in my motorcycle.

I think I have used enough hot glue to construct a building, but somehow they keep escaping. Cricket prisoners of war.

Glad she gave in!!! :) A year ago I said no way to Dubia Roaches as well.... Now I have a colony and call them beetles so as to not freak out the company :D

I hate roaches, I really do, so I don't blame her for not wanting to have any. A few weeks ago a wild one crawled over me while I slept and I swear I have never moved so fast in my life. I beat it to death with a pole I had nearby and bought 10 roach traps the next day!

But roaches are great feeders.
By breeding them you save money, ones like Dubia or Discoids don't climb smooth surfaces or really fly, they don't make chirping noises, they breed pretty quickly, and they are meatier and healthier feeders than crickets. But they are a little creepy. I recently got the green banana roaches, which are really small to be a great feeder but they are bright green, so they don't bother me at all. I actually think they're really pretty in color.

So I'm glad your mom gave in! They're an excellent feeder to have around.

I have the opposite problem of what you had.... In my case I am the Mom and my kids are freaking out on the roaches:D

Actually I think I ended one of my relationships with escaped Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches once. Asia didn't like bugs. lol

Amanda, give it up if you think being honest with them is going to work. Parents don't care how much money you'll save by bringing roaches into their homes.
