im really trying to be nice to my chameleon charlie and he was moved into his permanent home, a 48" tall by 24x24" enclosure. now its hard to find him and when i do, i try to get him out to sun here in socal. i stick my hand in and he runs away, now he has gotten the nerve to his at me!! so how do you guys get your chameleons out to sun and cleaning cuz i cant!!

he usually didnt mind me holding him but the traditional male veiled came out and sure enough he hissed. im thinking of letting him bite me so we both can get over it......

I don't think you will be saying that when he gets full size.

You can try to hand feed him. Take a cricket or other feeder in one hand and make it to where he has to advance onto your other hand in order to get closer. It does take them awhile to get the hang of it but it can be effective. Of course when he gets older and smarter his tongue can cover the distance so this fails to be as effective.

Sometimes you can trick them onto other sticks. Having some sticks or vines in the cage that can be removed with little effort may work, kind of depends on your set-up.

Well my panther just hissed at me today for getting too close to him with his spray bottle of all things! But once I get him on my hand he's usually alright. In fact sometimes he goes for a ride on my shoulder while I do my daily chameleon and cricket maintenance. So sometimes they're all bark (or hiss as the case may be) and no bite.

ohh ok i will try that. im not trying to get bit but its getting annoying, all he does is bully me :( and think im scared when i dont advance after he hisses

I wish he would get, but he won't, that im doing it all in his best interest. he bask in natural sunlight, he is healthier, i dont pay for the vet bill, in turn he lives longer with less stress. to bad chameleons cant here all the things we say to them when they dont do what we want them too..............

i open my cage and he comes out.

sometimes it takes a minute but sometimes he really wants to get out when i
spray down the cage during mistings.

I got mine used to hand feeding treats during the first few months. Then when he got older and grumpy, I use a stick with a silkworm on it and try to bribe him out. He also can't resist wax worms.

Not an expert but when hissing and defense happens you should not advance or retreat. If u continue to refuse his warnings more stress and less trust will happen. If you fully retreat he will think his defense is working and will get more and more aggressive. You have to win his trust and be patient. Think of it as him training you lol
