How To Handle A Chameleon

Thanks for the video...very informative. I'll be getting my 1st cham sometime this week. I'm soooooo excited! I've been collecting all the "stuff" for over 2 years now, and it's finally gonna happen! The "nursery" is all set up and ready to go...everything is working great. Humidity and temps "just right". So, my question is this: I'm not afraid of getting bitten, I hope it doesn't happen, but hey? Who knows? Right? Is the bite of a chameleon in anyway harmful to humans? I'm asking about actual illness here, like, salmonella from some other snakes and lizards, or possible disease that can be transmitted? I haven't seen this one mentioned altho I might have missed it.

salmonella for sure :)
but, if you are afraid, then wear thick gloves during handling.
You should be fine.

Thanks. I thought maybe salmonella....it's just basic husbandry to be aware. I'm not afraid...just wanted to know. Thanks again. Peace.

You guys are the best!!!!

I must say you guys have some of the best panther chameleon genetics around. I have purchased several from you guys and they all display amazing colors. I will continue buying from screameleons for quality genetics. These videos help dramatically. Especially, for those who run into trouble with a stubborn panther.:)

This helped so much! I didn't realize how badly I was handling my little guy. :(

I tried the technique and he was a different chameleon.

Thanks!

nice videos......when my veiled cham is stressed out she will try to keep crawling when my hand isnt there and try to jump.....but when i calm her she stays still

cool videos thnaks alot!

iv just got a new chameleon and he has never been handled and very snappey.

He has just turned one has he too far gone to handle now or is there any ideas you could give me to try and sort him out please :):)

Great videos thanks. Im a newbie and my veiled Kai likes to try to munch my hand if I try to touch him. Now I can try this way.

I wouldnt have bothered the angry cham myself, unless it had to be moved for cleaning. It clearly wanted to be left alone, it was afraid. I think rather than 'calming down' or 'chilling out' , its accepting its fate, losing its fight. Somehow breaking its spirit by pushing it beyond the point at which a predator would back down or fly off (unless its a really hungry snake :) )dosent seem fair ontop of its captivity. If it just had to be moved, a stick/branch is a better option imo. :)

So how do you deal with a cham that is not only incredibly aggressive, but if you try to distract with the other hand, either tries to bite that one, or will just drop to the floor? I know the obvious answer is to not handle him (which I very rarely do) but it often takes about an hour to get him out of his cage when he has needed to go to the vets. Bizarrely, the only place he will sit comfortably on me and not try to attack me is at the vets!

Haha, I already have some of those, and they are pink as well! :D My concern is the fact that he gets all fierce, swings round (has actually touched my hand but not bitten - yet) and if all of that doesn't scare me, he will just let go and drop. He actually did that when he climbed to the top of the cage, got scared (I was trying to get him off the side of the cage) and just let go. Luckily i caught him before he hit the floor, 6ft below. That's my issue - how do you deal with one who will just let go and drop to the floor?

Zem lets me handle him just fine as long as im real slow and carefull he dosent seem to give me a prob with leaving his cage its when i want him to go back in is when i gives me probs he never bites or hisses he just reatches out to the meshing of the cage and if you dont put him in the right way its a pain is the rear!... very klingy little fella.
