I have a 2 month old Jackson. He seems healthy. (1st vet appointment next week). He is in a reptibreeze (I think that was the name) cage. I have closed the back and 1 side because I can't seem to keep the humidity up. I have a mister and have it set to come on every 3 hrs for a minute. It was at 6 hrs. but the humidity was staying around 40% so I upped it. That hasn't seemed to help. So then I closed in the two sides. I have a spray bottle that I spray every time I go by to try to raise it but I'm only getting up to 50%. My temp is staying at 80. Any suggestions? I just got him yesterday and want to make sure sure everything is as it should be! Also, I haven't seen him eat yet... should I be worried or will it take him a few days like some other animals? Thank you so much for any help you are able to give.
 
I turned the lights off about an hour ago and the humidity has gone up to about 62% since then. What is the recommended lighting schedule?
 
I had trouble with my humidity for a long time, but heres what I did.

1) I bought a retifogger that goes off once every 1.5 hours for 15 minutes. It really helps with the humidty- BUT it did freak out my cham the first time it went off! Ha. Now he loves it though...sits right underneath it whenever it goes off!
2) Added a large live plant. They really help with the humidity!
3) Manually spray as much as possible- for long periods of time. From 3-5 minutes, with warm watr.
4) I covered 3 of the sides with a shower curtain. My fogger enters from the top of the cage and it really helps with keeping the humidity up.
5) I bought a $20 small space/room heater. I keep it on when my humidity really dips, OR when someone leaves the door/window open and the temp drops.

Lights

I try to have 12-14 hour days.
Ideally 12 hours of UVA/UVB light, 12 of no light.

**Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a young Vield- so maybe some of my advice was more Vield-driven...but it seems to be the same for humidity/lights across the board!**
 
i was having the same issue in terms of maintaining high humidity levels, so i was told to buy a fish tank heat pad to put at the bottom of my mesh cage and that seems to work since the water evaporates once it reaches the pad and creates frequent moisture increasing my humidity! Try that. Hope that works...
 
I have the plant thing covered. I have a lg hibiscus and a couple of small pothos ivy. I will try covering a third side. I have a mister but it only sprays for up to 1 minute at a time. I will try some of the other tips given and see how today goes. Thank you all for the input!
 
This is solved easily (unless the cham is in a big high traffic room). Buy a cold mist humidifier and raise the ambient humidity in the room to 55-60% then it will be easy to keep your humidity up.

You can pick one up from Walgreens for $35. I also use a humidistat that I purchased off of amazon for $55 that controls the humidifier. However, you can acheive the desired affect with just the humidifier and some trial and error.
 
Just bought a humidifier. Thank you all for the help! I closed in a third side this morning and brought it up to 60%. Hopefully I will be able to remove it one the humidifier is in place.

Humidity is still only 55 between mistings and 65-70 right after. Im trying but nothing is really working! Help please!!!
 
How about adding a dripper?
It will allow your cham to have access to more drinking water than a 1 minute misting will.
A dripper can be as simple as a thoroughly cleaned milk container that you put a pinhole in the bottom of.
Jackson's often seem to need a bit of coaxing to drink enough water.

I think the next step would be getting a room heater or humidifyer because it seems like your doing everything right and I think maybe your house humidity is just way too low for you to be battling. Either raise the huidity in the room.... or.... (IM STUMPED!)
 
How is the cham room heated, by radiator heat or forced air? I have forced air and have noticed the more my vents blow out air, the harder it is to maintain high humidity. If I have my system's fan set to on (blowing constantly) it is impossible to keep the humidity up. If it is set to auto the fan only blows when it needs to and it is much easier to maintain humidity. This might not be a factor for you, but its worth a mention.
 
I have the cold mist humidifier right by his cage and live plants in it. I haven't had to run my heat yet this year... gotta love south Texas! My a.c. is set to 77 and fan is on auto. I am going to try a different enclosure that has 3 sides glass and see if that helps. I will also add a dropper this evening. I'm so upset because I tried very hard to research and set things up right from the get go. I really don't want to stress the little guy out. Hey is staying dark brown all the time.

Don't worry too much, you will get there. With the level of dedication you have displayed, and the willingness to make any change necessary to improve your cham's quality of life, it is all but guaranteed that he will live a happy and healthy life :)

Actually, I might be mistaken but 55% ambient and 65-70% after mistings is not bad at all for a veild. I have not had a veiled but I believe I read they like humidity in the 50-70% range.
 
I have a Jackson's. Don't they need it higher? Could my humidity gauge be wrong? It just seems like an awful lot of water going in with no change.
