Hello,
I had been posting a while back when we found Rango a huge little guy. It has been a long time since i posted. But Yesterday i was given a 10 month old male and upon inspection, i noticed he has a hump on his back. i am posting a picture so maybe someone could tell me if this is normal. I have an appt at the vet first thing in the am but wanted to see what you al thought.

ok so it is more on his butt area. will get a better one soon, but you can see what i mean

It looks like your Chameleon has Metabolic Bone disease (MBD). His arms are bowed which are actualy fractures, and the hump in his back is also caused by the MBD. He needs a vet badly.

MBD can not be reversed, but if you take it to the vet right away you can help stop it from progressing. Please fill out the How To Ask For Help form from the Health Clinic.

Unfortunately, he does have MBD. See how is legs are all curvy? Can he shoot his tongue? Alot of chams with mbd have to be hand fed. They can't maybe live the "normal" lives of other chameleons but they live with it. It is gonna take alot of tlc. As the other member stated there is no cure for it, so pretty much he will be like that but if you take the necessary steps it will not continue to progress. Also looks to have gular edema(fluid) but it could just be the picture. I don't know how but I missed the second picture. I am thinking maybe he is a she by the coloring.

She needs to be x rayed to see if she is retaining eggs along with other problems. This makes me angry how people buy pets without doing proper research. A chameleon is no pet for a child (sounds like the previous owner).

Best of luck, I really hope your veiled thrives under your care.

Most pets don't need the care chameleons do. So people don't know what they are getting into when they buy them. It should be up to the pet store to know these things and advise the person who is buying the chameleon of how much care is required. I bought my first chameleon blindly not knowing what I was getting into.

It was given to her from a lady who did not think her daughter was caring for it. That says enough

i am just hoping i caught it in time and Stickers will get the medical attention needed. Like i said in a different post, I picked her up yesterday from a lady ( her daughter who is 18 did not take care of it like it needed) and I made the vet appt for the soonest appt they had.
Cross your fingers it is not too bad.

You're a good person for taking this on. We have seen many inspiring stories of chameleons with MBD being treated, regaining strength and going on to live substantial, seemingly content lives. I'm looking forward to following Stickers' story!
