Hydration question

Hey, we got our boy a week ago. He is a panther chameleon about 11 months old. Everything seems to be fine, he has an appetite, drinks water, sleeps okey. But we live in a quiet dry climate and we have a concern about the hydration of our chameleon. We mist twice a day and we use fogger at night. I took a picture of his poop, can someone examine it and tell me is it okay. (This is his third poop since we got him home!

Hi. Poop looks ok. Is your set up bioactive? If so, that should be helping immensely with humidity. How long do you mist for? The ideal is to mist for at least two minutes, twice a day - right before lights go on and off. If needed, you could add a 1 minute misting in the afternoon or use a dripper for about 15-20 minutes. At night if your temps are below at least 68, you can run a fogger to boost humidity all the way. That simulates the natural hydration gotten in the wild thru fog. You don’t say what your humidity levels are or how you measure them. The analog gauge is notoriously inaccurate. Your handsome guy will do just fine if you can only achieve 50% humidity.

I measure it with hygrometer. I mist exactly as you said and the enclosure is bioactive. The day humidity sometimes drops to 40%, thats way i still mist in the afternoon, eventhough I’ve read it is not really okay to do it (can cause respiratory issues) The night humidity is 70-80%.

Is your bioactive in a screen enclosure or a hybrid?

One trick to see if your chameleon is thirsty is to take a water bottle or one of those red solo cups and poke a hole in it. Place it over the top of the enclosure so it drips down on some leaves for your chameleon to drink. If your baby rushes to drink, you need to adjust things. If they ignore it you are good :). I do this a couple times a week just to check how my guys are all doing.

Its a hybrid one. I make my own dripper from a plastic cup that i poke a hole in it, but he seems to ignore it. I place it on top of the screen to drip onto the leaves.
