I adopted a Veiled, help with a few questions!

You might want to put a piece of fruit or something in there. Not only will it draw them out, but it will feed them, which is something you want if your chameleon is going to eat them.

Is there any way you can use this event to demonstrate the superiority of the roaches?

Yes, i had my wife put some cut up apples and carrots in the cup for them to "gutload"!

Not sure what you mean by this.

What shes saying is that roaches are a better feeder option than crickets. They contain more body mass/protein and are higher in calcium than a cricket. I feed dubia but unfortunately some of my collection wont touch them. Those that do relish them though. I like em cause they dont stink, or chirp or jump. And they are by far the easiest insect to breed. Just buy a tub and feed them. Down in Texas I dont even need a heat mat. Up in Ny you'd need a heat source for them to breed for you.

i think i got the pix to load..

:)

The water that i mist, should it be roomtemp or warm? (i have been using bottled water, anyone using tap?)

Oh yess!! Far superior!!

There is no convincing her (my wife). I already had to answer a ton of "what iff" questions. I felt like i was pulling teeth asking her to toss a few apple and carrot slices in the cup. She used my long Aquascaping tweesers to do it. She wants nooo part of roaches!

She is only dealing with it because Kamo will eventually eat them and she will be rid of them!! lol

I have an RO system for water and would recommend bottle water any day over tap. I like to warm the water a couple minutes in the microwave for my guys. They love it warm.

few pix.

the lighter colors are his Cham-Pajamas!;)

damn, i justtt sold my RODI unit for cheapppp since i am out of the salterwater reef hobby.

I mist in the morning with warm water, and after basking with room-temp water. I'd hate to have to wake up to a cold shower and i assume he wouldnt either.

He's very handsome and reminds me of my Luie when he was young.

thanks. I have always wanted a Cham of my own. I guess this aboption came at the right time. My kids LOVEE him!! (wish i was able to handle him so they can get a closer look)

And your Luie is a veryyy nice Veiled. If Kamo ends up anything like Luie i'll be happy.

If you work with him and keep him out of the cage some on a large plant or tree, when you can closely supervise, he will come around. Chameleons can become very territorial when caged.

i am planning on buying a free range tree for him for my home. Just havent had the time yet. Hopefully by the weekend

thanks for the tips.

noted!!

This is what happened when i got too close!

Hahah dont me angry with him! You should see my Enano.. He is one pissy guy.. I just have to be within 10 feet of him and he is fired up and hissing at me.. Its nearly impossible to get him out of his cage.. So i jus leave him there :)

You just gotta take it step by step.. Slowly.. Let him get adjusted.. Im assuming he is wild so he has probably never had any exposure to people like he is having now.. He is freaked out!
Veileds are more pissy than other chams so you're probably gonna have one pissed off chameleon..but there is some chance that he will let you handle him.

I doubt he is WC. I adopted him from a owner that could no longer take proper care of him . I assume part of that was not having the time to handle him enough to make him tame.

I fear i will take this hobby in the direction that i take ALL my other hobbies. I'm already thinking about getting another Cham once i get the hang of things with Kamo. So if all fails with Kamo i'll have a 2nd chance.;)

Maybe a baby Panther next year:D

Thanks!

And yea, i get a lil obessed about my passions. It's actually good that my wife (minus the Bubia's) and kids and on board with this one.

I'm sure i'd be allowed to get another Cham later down the line. Something i can get young and train to be handled.

I have to say. This site is by far the most welcoming/informative forum i have ever been on. And i MOD a few forums myself, so that says a lot!!
