I am getting a veil in an hour help!!

I got my guy at 1 month old and he did great, he was from A-1 Reptiles. He is in a 16x16x30 all screen cage by Bluebeast reptiles. I try to hold him a few times a week, he has such attitude.

bg77- he has such attitude. Geee, that's so unlike a veiled. LOL Nasty little critters aren't they. Mine's not biting anymore, he just puffs up and opens his mouth an hits me with his whole head. Swings it from side to side. I guess thats an improvement, huh?

ok found an all wire mesh at petco i will get that one instead of the glass one. OMG did u say they bite?????????? just to clear up the holding thing the guy said they hold him to keep him used to it so he doesn't get aggresive when trying to hold. i will not be holding it a lot lol. ok also for misting i should use distilled water correct? i will not get a waterfall thanks for the warning i will get a drip. i will also look for ficus to place inside. one last question... should i keep removing him to feed? righ now he is in a small enclosure so i will be moving him into something much larger do u think he will be ok getting the crickets on his own?

yes. veiled chams are aggressive and some bites.
why remove him to feed?
he can hunt on his own. (i gather he's about 2 months old).

When I first got mine he wanted to free range, now that I have had him a few months he will cup feed too. As far as bitting, mine seems to want to from time to time but has not yet. When I go to get him out he runs, puffs and makes noises at me. He is still young so it does not deter me, but when he gets adult, I will probably think twice, and then get his ass out somehow. I think that most veileds will never get use to being held. I know that once I get mine out he will calm down allot. But I guarantee he still wants to bite my ass.

Veiled is the most agressive chameleon, but their really not that bad. Usually once you get them out of their cage, their fine. Most just bluff a lot to make you think they are going to bite. At his age, it won't hurt if he does bite you. Just be careful and don't pull your hand back real quick as you could really hurt him. He should be fine hunting on his own.

The only type of cham that you should keep in that is a pygmy. perhaps some hatchlings... Glad you are going with an all screen.

ok this was the tank i was gonna get just so i could show u guys but i am going with a mesh one. I thought the tank i was gonna get was ok but i will take your advice lol.

good for you! having all screen cage will save you money and heartaches.

I used to cage my cham in that kind of terrarium all thanks to my stupidity and petco reptile advisor's suggestion.
lo and behold within 2 weeks, the cham get a URI. Thank goodness i was able to save him be4 it's too late.

New Baby Veil Cham. What do u think?

This is my new baby veil Cham i just got him home a few hours ago... Ok i know i was told to get a mesh cage but freaking petco sold the one i had on hold i could have smacked the lady. So i had to get the glass terain one with the mesh at the top for now i will be looking for the right one as soon as possible. He (which i think is a she) seems to be doing ok. when i got him home i had a little scare lol i opened the box he was in and he was white:eek: i beleive he was asleep when i picked him up he went green with some stripes. He stays a lime green color most of the time but he has been going brown latley(is that ok?) they said they were feeding him 10-15 crickets a day and they were taking him out and putting him in a container because he couldn't catch the food? well i found that my enclosure is a great cricket hider lol so i took him out and put him in something smaller to feed but he only ate one cricket:( I am also wondering about temp i would say he is only about 2 months old and his body is about maybe 3 inches i have him in a 24x18x12 set up right now but the temp only really goes up to 75 is this to cold for him?. i am attaching pics for you all to see let me know what u think about him/her lol.

the first pics are him green and the last is of him brown (sorry bad pics lol)

OK-so you temporarily have him in a glass cage. You must be sure to not COOK him. What kind of thermometer did you get (please not a sticky strip one)? What UVB and basking lights/fixtures do you have on him? Does he have little spurs on his back heels? If not, you have a female. That will open up another can of worms for you to deal with.

Temps in the cage are OK at 75, and should be no higher than 80-85 for a baby that small, again err on the cool side in the glass enclosure.

I have the fluker's terrarium gages thermometer and hydrometer. it is now a nice 75 in there he didn't reallt want to eat he ate 1 cricket?honestly i don't think i see a spur which i am a little irritaed because i wanted a male ughhh. also when they sleep do they lay down?

yea they lay down, but they lay down on the branch they are holding onto.if u understand what im trying to say. their tail will wrap and and normally display a brighter or calm color. looks to be female

You need a good digital thermometer with a probe-if you got those round analog things they are garbage. He/she may not eat for a few days in a new environment. They don't lay down, they usually curl up their tail and cling on to a branch or a vine. They never lay down on the bottom unless they are sick or dieing. How about your lighting? I really cannot stress enough how hard these animals are to keep. If you got a female, be prepared for more stress.

i just threw some cricket in he freaken went nuts hahah ate them all yay! i have right now repti glo 5.0 26 watt lamp compact i need to get the other one but they didn't have any. is this ok for now?
