I am a college student and for the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays i am going to have to go back home. what i am wondering is what to do with my cham. i could take him home with me (5 hour car ride) or maybe i could leave him with the people i bought him from. how much stress do you guys think the car ride would cause?

well maybe you could purchase an explorarium, like a good size one 36 *24. ebay is cheap. you could strap him in the car seat, and maybe throw a blanket over it, so he might sleep and not be stressed. and of course just bring the lights and put them above the explorarium. these are awesome and can just throw in your closet. good luck

40 bucks plus 7 bucks for shipping, i think this could fit a college student budget, lol. do you live off campus? im moving to the university of houston next year and i think im going to sneak my chameleon in with me :D, lol. he needs an education as well. i couldnt leave him behind, lol. i just live at home right now while im going to a junior college to get my basics out of the way, nice and cheap, lol.

"You could always give him to me lol not sure what u could do i like the idea of explorarium. but also it depens when ur leaving

do you have anybody that are willing to take care of it for you?
At least until you get back..

It's too bad you and I are strangers :p
So, just skip the idea :D

I own a chameleon and i live around mtsac.

How bout your closest friends? just give him the key to your apartment so he can come everyday to mist and feed the dude.
how long r u gonna b in montana?

if you can find a trustworthy person, than i would suggest you do not take the cham on a roadtrip.
Especially a climate change can be a disaster if you are not equipped.

Bigtex,
You can definitely take him/her with you. I once took a veil from California to Chicago via Honda civic! Just make sure the weather isn't too extreme and that the bugger is well fed and hydrated prior to the journey. Covering the cage or enclosure is a great idea but make sure it is well ventilated and stays away from direct sunlight. If you have the option of leaving him/her with an experienced keeper I think that option is ultimately best for the cham.

wow thats great to know Edward thanks for the advice, i think i would much rather bring Romeo with me just because then i know he will get the best possible care. i could check into a local pet shop where i live, a mom n pop type place with pretty knowledgeable staff, but i think im going to probably get a cage and bring him with me

You can take them with you. i bought mine in california and brought them to Arizona in the deli cup i received them in. it was a 5 hour trip. place some strips of wet newspaper on the bottom for moisture, and don't let them sit in the sun. also there are so many websites that sell cham's and they are delivered via ups and fedex. So they should be fine.

Those explorariums are hella cool too. I have two that I use for sunning and travel to vet if needed. You can also flatten them for easy storage when they're not needed.
