I bought Gonzo (already named, kept the name)from a member on this board in early September. ruru was moving and put a post in the classifieds. I am SO glad that I am the one she chose to re-home Gonzo to! Gonzo was hatched on 8/15/10 by Lancecham and is a little over 14 months old. He is a ambilobe x ambanja cross. He has really stolen my heart in the little time that we have been together!
When he first arrived here, he was probably stressed out a bunch. He had just driven 5 1/2 hours with me. Yes, I drove over 11 hours that day to bring him to me! He seemed very denfensive and protective of his cage when I got him. He did not like me anywhere near him at first.
This all changed about 3 weeks ago, when I opened his cage to feed him. I was primarily cup-feeding with a few crickets loose in the cage. When I opened his cage, he looked at me differently. I took a dubia roach and put it in my fingers and outstretched my hand. His turrets immediately focused in on my fingers. His mouth slightly opened, revealing a tiny sliver of tongue! Could this be it? Would he do it? He never did for ruru and she had him and his trust a LONG time more than me. Then it happened! Mouth opens, tongue unfolding.....TWHACK!!!!! right on my finger, completely missing the feeder! LOL He quickly finds his target again and shoots with the accuracy we all love about these little guys.
When I go into his room now, he hurries to the front of his cage. As I open his door, his mouth starts to slightly open, just as it did the first time. He is my hand-fed Panther, and I love the bonding time we get when we do this.
I have owned many different species of reptiles for over 30 years (first was a green anole, not exactly sure how old I was) and none have captivated me the way that Gonzo has.
I am truly glad that we found each other!
Gonzo is currently for sale for $1,000,000.00. If no takers, I guess we will have to enjoy each others company for a while longer!
Sorry so long, but I wanted to share my story about my favorite reptile!
