I got bit by a panther chameleon today

We spent today at my youngest daughters Lizbeth's (lbesok) in Lake Wales, FL. I got to see my grandcat and all my grand chameleons. Well, Sid her 9 month old Ambilobe bit my finger when I went to pick him up. I'd not seen Sid in 3 or 4 months and I guess he didn't recognize his grandma anymore. I saw a thread on here last week about what it felt like for a cham to bite you.....well it scared me more than it hurt and in the pictures you can see the damage he did to my finger.

Jann you need to start cooking spagetti right now! I find beating them with a wet noodle to be very effective. It always keeps my kids in line. They fear the noodle!!! Sorry Sid was having a bad day and took it out on you. Let Chuck come over and kiss it.

Did you pull your finger away as a reflex when he bit it?

If a Cham does that to me I try not to react by pulling my finger out thus serrating a wound from their teeth.

No MBD there ! LOL ... in all sincerity, one of the best ways to test bone strength in younger chameleons, before any other symptom of deficiency is apparent, is to pick an appropriate sized finger, and get them to bite it. This is when they are 7" total length or less (even as small as 3" total), and if there is a calcium issue, you will FEEL it before you see it (sometimes the skull will bend in a juvenile as it attempts to bite hard, where you thought all was OK !). It'll pinch at that size, but not break the skin. I would keep some antibiotic ointment handy for your bite. I had an adult break the skin last week, and a small infection set in, where most scrapes around here fade quickly. Want to compare scars

Yeah, as hard as it is to do, you just need to sit there and take it. I've had a few of those myself and man, they hurt like a SOB!

As usual, that sulfadiozine cream will clear that puppy right up....and maybe take some of the sting away, too.

This is Sid the little guy that bit me and yes Gary I did pull away......he was so fast and he scared me. Didn't break the skin and no blood, guess I was just shocked. My two are so friendly and laid back, I'd never seen a chameleon move so fast.

Oh wow. I hate when that happens! It always scares me when i see one snap at me and hiss, then lock on. It never really hurts as much as it makes me jump. But I still do not like when they do this.
