i was feeding fred today a nice dinner of locust and i allowed it was a while since he had a treat so he got 2 wax worms for dessert.i left the wax worms on my palm and when he was going for number 2 bam he stuck to my hand. it felt a bit on the weird side i must say.ive always thought about this happening since i started hand feeding i was afraid if he stuck to me id get a fright and jerk my hand and end up pulling him off the branch ha

oh by the way i got a new cabinet today to start his new enclosure i think its ideal but im not going to rush it im going to do a little bit at a time hope to finish in about a month heres a pic

Here's a quick tip. If it is possible to take out the glass from the cabinet and replace it with screen that would be great. Even with the doors. I know it will be a little tough but it'd look pretty cool.

i think my plan is to just screen the lower part of the sides and put vents in the top.drainage will be the most awkward part id say.ill probably look at getting a mister too.ill see as i go.with living in ireland all screen cages dont keep temperature well enough.fred is in an all glass terranium at the minute.when i get it all set up ill run it with everything on for a few days and see if i need to change anything before i move fred in

thanks for the input

I think your plan is best given where you live. All the people lucky enough to live where it is warm all year just don't know the challenges we face. It is a beautiful cabinet. I have also had my share of clod sticky tongues. Not my favorite thing but seems to happen once in a while when you hand feed.

Awesome! I have a wardrobe that looks almost just like this I have been contemplating turning into an enclosure for a Cham but right now it houses a couple of bearded dragons.

Keep the pics coming as you put it together.

This looks awesome man!!! I am building on right now( not ad fancy ;p) I am gonna follow this thread I promise. And I'll warn you of all my problems so you don't have to incounter them haha. Keep up! Slow and steddy wins the race!!

finally starting build

ive finally made a start on the new diy enclosure.so in the original post you can see how it started out a 50 euro buy in a charity shop.today ive stripped the bottom glass panes on the sides to swap for screen.the top has come off also for screen.and the back was broken so its going to be replaced and i havent decided yet to just paint it,cork tile or maybe a diy background

i plan on keeping this thread updated just dont expect daily check ins :) as this is going to be a slow build unfortunately due to moving home and a kind of build up of other things

also ideas input is all welcome.im just kind of winging it with this

Well enjoy the process! That's half the fun of this hobby. I think it tends to attract lots of do-it-yourself, "tinkerer" type people, because of all the little projects we get to work on.

hows the new viv coming along?:)

To be honest I haven't been at it since.I bought a van (for pocket money I saved it from the crushed ha) so the funds are directed at that at the minute.because my sister has started driving and I'm going to give her my car once I have the van road worthy.

On the viv front I have gathered materials for a DIY background I'm just waiting for the girlfriend to draw my design as I can't draw to save myself and I've also got the parts for my home made kinda rain/kinda mist machine it works pretty good so I'm going to plumb it in when I do more with the viv

Any ideas on drainage? I would put it in prior to adding screen and stuff just for ease of install. (I'm currently adding drainage to Zaphod's place and its tough when planted and occupied :))
Looks great so far! ;)

Thanks deca.drainage will be tackled next on the agenda.the plan is to make the background and fit it loosely then work around this with drainage then.I think my plan so far is to replace the floor with a perspective sheet slightly risen on 4 sides and cut a big hole in the middle to sink a large potted plant ( likely to be ficus) almost flush with floor level this should weigh down the perspex to create a funnel effect.then have a few small extra drain holes around the pot all directed to a funnel and bucket setup in the cabinet underneath

Well.....I like to think that my home-bodged vivs are awesome and as they are 'The Worlds Only Matching Pair of Mahogany Wardrariums' they are justifiably admired by all who see them.......
Maybe that's a little bit arrogant though?.....
Especially since I can give virtually no advice to anyone else who want to do it......I was smoking so much at the time that they seemed to just get built as a by-product of having fun.......
Good job so far though........I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product :)
