I have now finished my cage

What a lovely looking viv, it has inspired my boyfriend to making one for our cham!! It looks very professional!! We saw your other pictures of you making it and it looked amazing.
What cham is going into the palace?? lol. I cant wait till my boyfriend makes ours! Will you put some pics on when the cham is in please??
Thanks!!

Swweeet!

Very Nice Work! Right now I am an Alum cages on steel racks kind of a guy... But this makes me want to run over and take advantage of my Dads wood shop for sure.

I have a juvie Blue bar Ambilobe panther growing on at the minute. He is growing very quickly so shouldnt be to long until he is big enough to go in here?

I love the cage you built.. but,
i don't know... I'll be the devil's advocate here..

i think you need more live plants there or taller ficus.
provide same space where he can hide and be covered by leaves to feel safe.

i wish chameleons were trampolinests  you could put a little trampoline underneath, so if he fell of he could bounce on that for a bit untill you let him back up on his branches.

Excellent craftmenship!

I would try for fuller folliage though, think ( I live in a tree).

Al;so, Make sure you get the final varnish or what ever sealent you are using on there ASAP. It needs to sit for weeks till the fumes stop. I used Spar Urithane and I liked it. Give it a bit of a rinse a few days before you put him in to get any left over fumes out.

I'm envious though!

It has had its final varnish do people really think someone would put all this effort in and not actually know what they were doing? As for the trampoline comment what are you trying to incinuate if you look the branches go right down to the floor and its not a hard landing as there is no base its just mesh. The cham will not be going into this enclosure for at least another month as its only a juvinile so plants will have time to grow and fill out more beofre he goes in. It strikes me that on this forum no matter what has been posted everyone tries to find something negative I think I will bow out of this forum and post elsewhere I am getting a bit tired of trying to justify myself on every thread I make.

Mark-don't get upset-that is an awesome cage, and I wish I could get you to build a room full of them for me. The trampoline comment was a bit "off" I think, but you can't take those things to heart! I would also suggest a nice full Pothos or something-it will help with your humidity and give you cham more things to drink off of up top-I seem to have terrible luck with Ficus-they just seem to lose all or most of their leaves for me, then they just become a place for the Pothos to vine into! :) Please don't go away-I want to see how your cham enjoys that cage!

mark i couldn't agree with you more!!!!!!!! i think its perfect look in every text book most panther cages are sparce they tend not to need to many plants for security like most species ! mark its perfect dont change a thing everyone just wants to look like they know more than the next guy but honestly 89% of this forums members are clueless !!! and i stand by that just read some of the posts.for christ sake they are baking wood!!!!!!!

I guess you have to be smart enough to pick the good advice from the bad???

Really, there are some newbies, and some people that post constantly with no meaning or experience to contribute, but there are PLENTY of experienced people with well meaning advice.

The jabbing really needs to stop-that is what makes it unpleasant.

PS-I have Panthers that like it sparse and Panthers that enjoy a bit more cover!

The panther I have at the moment seems to prefer it sparce when I first picked him up he only had a climbing frame with 2 fake plants on it very sparce. I thought there was not much for him to do so filled it out a bit with some fake plants it freaked him out he just clung to the roof wouldnt come down tried this over a few days. So I then changed it to a small ficus and a climbing area he spends all day in the climbing area only going into the ficus to catch bugs and sleep at night. He does seem to be a confident panther in the way of not hiding much which is why I designed the cage the way I did tayloring it to how I find his needs. I do like the pothos idea I might look into suspending one from the cross bar on the roof might look good.

That sounds like my male Veiled-I put a big Ficus in and he didn't move for 2 days-he hangs out in the open. In my female Oustalet's cage, the Pothos is so big it is the only plant in there, and it is a 24X24X36 cage.

Ahhh Money plant now I know what a pothos is. I may look into getting a larger bushy one and seeing if I can suspend it from my cross bar on the roof.

Mark,

I think the thing to be aware of is that total newbies and highly experienced keepers are on this site all the time. Just in the short time I've been lurking on here, I've seen everything from "what do chameleons eat?" to very detailed discussions on husbandry and breeding.

Just because you have carpentry skills, does that mean that we should all assume that you are all-knowing with respect to chameleon husbandry? We have seen beautiful enclosures posted on this site that took no account for drainage and other basic needs of the animal.

If you are posting photos of your enclosure, don't assume that everyone is going to just jump up and down and tell you it's beautiful - (of course YOURS actually is, IMHO) Some people are going to have dumb comments that will be off target. Some will be well intentioned but still off target. If you are open minded you might find a few comments that REALLY help you out. From my limited experience on this site, it seems to me that most of the regulars here are really just trying to help. Take it in the spirit it's meant, and, in the words of Sargent Hulka, "Lighten Up Francis..." :D

Yeah I realise that mate and do take "constructive" critisism well. But comments such as drainage, trying to point out about me varnishing etc dont need to be asked because if the poster looked or read properly in the first place instead of trying to be big headed they wouldn`t need to try and pick fault all the time.
