I would start with some of the guides on here, figure out if you have the ability to take care of one, and then decide on your type of chameleon.

How much room do you have for a cage and are you prepared to spend several hundred dollars easily on the setup alone, in addition to actually purchasing a chameleon? How much room you have dictates the size of species you are limited to. Adult panther chameleons (the really colorful ones) need a cage that's about 2'x2'x4' tall. But there are smaller species too if you can't keep a cage that big. Tell us a little bit about your possible setup and what you're looking for in a chameleon and we'll try to point you in the right direction. :)

Veileds and panthers may be the best starter chams as their very robust. They also get big so you'll need to get a large cage when they mature. Veileds are MUCH cheaper + their hardiness makes them perhaps the best beginner choise. Remember even the easiest cham is MUCH more difficult than most other pets. Proper lighting, cage, food are CRITICAL to their success. The other issue is getting a healthy one to start. Buy from a responsible vendor [site sponsers on here are all good]. READ care sheets on here BEFORE you buy. Good luck and happy chamming [and post pics].

yes everyone is correct! even the easiest Cham is much harder to care for than most animals. another thing to understand is that reptiles no matter which kind live longer than most mammals there size. therefore getting a Cham maybe a long commitment. also scouting the correct area of the house to put them in is a big deal. u have to monitor the area you want to put the Cham to see what temps are normal in that area. then once you get a set up you need to monitor the temps with the proper lighting installed. different chams need different temps. I've always said that other than the normal things like food, water (mistings), and cage setups, temperature is THE most important factor that is sometimes overlooked. no matter how good the food, how offend you mist, or how nice the cage is, the Cham will not survive without the correct temps!!! so u might want to get a ball park of what temps u have available in your house so u can see what Chams can thrive in those temps. then u can choose from there.

I am facing a temperature issue. I have been in contact with a senior member. He/she has been very helpful and extremely patient with me.

This is my dilemma:

I will be getting the pygmy chameleons from an importer this week.

The temp in my bedroom range from low 72 to high 82.

This is with my ceiling fan going 24/7.

The temp in my living room/dining room range from low 65 to high 75.

I want the pygmy chameleon enclosure in my bedroom.

It looks as though I have lost this battle.

Last night I tinkered with the thermostat and set it at 65.

The temp in my bedroom ranged at 74-76. NO DROP!!

Temperature wise the best room is the living room/dining room.
