Ideas on Locale?

Hi All,

My male panther was bought without knowing the Locale for sure. He is roughly 8-10 months old I would think and is 16 inches long, 7inches Snout to vent.

He eats and drinks like a trooper and some new colouration came through today when he flared up at my dog so I thought i would take the opportunity to take a few snaps.

The guy i bought him off was sold it as Ambilobe. When he flares under his chin is white with small red stripes, no other colouration.

Any in favour of Ambilobe or is it possible he coule be something else?

He is totally amazing, I love his colouring as it is, its so unsusual at the minute but he is definately changing. Id like to find out what locale he is so I can source a girlfriend for him :D

Tough one. Quite big already and still juvenile coloration. I would guess sambava. Lots of red and yellow later on. Or a cross. But I am no expert

It looks like an East coast chameleon, im swaying towards Tamatave or Maroantsetra but his colours arent very developed yet. Hes very nice whatever he is. :)

I was also thinking Tamatave, but at the minute with him being quite undeveloped in colouration im unsure. But its the white and red under the chin which make me think he isnt Ambilobe, but then i could be wrong. kind of Exciting not knowing.

Benton this is the cham that your interested in on RFUk from Washington. :D

I was gonna say Tamatave or cross? Im leaning toward a cross now that I look and see the yellow lips? Ive never seen a Tamatave with yellow on the face before. Cool looking guy, sucks you dont know his lineage.....

I remember now. I wanst sure on his locale then either. These pics show him a bit better but still leaves me wondering what he is.

It would be nice if he is Maro, but i dont know anyone in the UK working with them so its more likely he is a cross, but a very nice cross. Possibly Ambilobe x Ankaramy?? It would explain the green and pinks.

 Could Be.

Dont know if it makes any difference but the white spots he has on his body are raised and slightly larger than the other scales. Tamatave x ?

Its possible he is tamatave cross mate, he does look very tamatave, perhaps in a few more months he might deepen in colour. The raised scales you mention is common amongst all panther chams though. What lights are you using and vitamins?

I wasnt sure about the raised scale point, only I found on Chameleoco's website that they mention that the white scales are raised in Tamatave.

He is under a 6% Arcadia T5HO bulb, and an Arcadia T5HO Tropical Pro that im using for the plants, but TBH its a bit pink for my liking so changing to the new Freshwater pro bulbs as they are much whiter.

As for Vits and Mins : Currently have Exo Vits until I get some Reptivite delivered, but he has been on Arkvits but this will only be twice monthly. plain calcium every feed.

All sounds good. If your using the T5 through mesh, I highly recommend getting the D3+ and use a reflector. Thats what im using for mine and the difference in their behaviour and colours is incredible! The tropical pro is not really needed when using the D3+, my plants are growing like weeds.

I use JBL pure calicum without D3 every feed, Reptivite without d3 fortnighly and Necton MSA D3 fortnighly (opposite fortnight to the Reptivite)

Forgot to mention that he has reflectors :)

Yeah but if its outside the cage, your losing a ton of the usable UV by being filtered through the mesh, thats why you should get the D3+ if outside the cage. Also, remember UV doesnt penetrate through glass (although you probably know that) so if your using a glass viv you cant put it outside.
