Hey guys, im new and a first time owner, recently on a trip to hawaii i caught a female jackson. it was really cool, she didnt even freak out when i picked it up. so now i am back home in Orange county/ la habra, CA. and my friend who used to own a veiled let me borrow his old cage and dripper. so i bought the biggest ficus tree home depot had, and it is kinda small, and last night i bought a thermomiter which im keeping at about 70 to 75 and a humidifier thing which says about 60 or alittle more. I Also bought a uvb light from petco (the only one they had left. it is 20 watts so im not sure if that is enough..
There is a Pure reptile store here called la habra pets who i brought it to show them and they said i should let it alone for awhile in the house because then i didnt know i shouldnt have been holding it.. but they did say it looked healthy and that those are rare in cali and they havent had some for awhile now because they are hard to get here.
anyways, i bought 10 crickets and let them run around in her house but i havent seen her eat and the crickets are going in the cracks of the cage..
good news though... ive had it in this cage for about 3 days now and today i finally saw her drinking! it was great!
well let me know if there are any tips, or things i should know...? also is there any ways to help make sure she eats?..
tell me how it looks please...
can u find her? :D

oh and id love to know anyone else in cali.. and any one who has a male jackson. :)
Thanks.

Hi and good for you. I am not familiar with Jacksons so i can't give you much advice on that but i can say that you need more vines and sticks in the cage. Also where she is new and all i wouldn't get worried if she doesn't eat much right away she hasn't to acclimate herself to all the new surroundings. Have you ever owned a cham before? If not i would spend the time and do some reading. Pick up a book or two with chams there is soooo much to learn and if they get sick they won't wait for you to figure it out, they are kinda fragile for a reptile. So do some research so you get things right. I am on the other side of the country but from reading everyone else info there are lots of folks in CA.

Good Luck

okay cool, thanks, i actually have a big a big branch that had samll twigs every where and some fake vines..
and yes this is my first.
ill put a pic up in a few min of it with all this. :)

Do you have a better picture (close up)?
That doesn't look like a Jackson's .. although it must be, given your story.
I would love to see her close up.
Also, please describe how you got her home from Hawaii.

should i take her out real quick for a pic? i cant really get a closer one becausethe camera is on my laptop.

Please.
I don't think a quick picture will cause her too much harm and I would love to really see her.
Thanks!

-Brad

please don't tell anyone I asked you to do that as I am a big advocate of minimal handling ... ;)

and i got it back from hawaii on the plane with me, i hid it in a platic case with holes all over, and once i got on the plane i opend it so it got more air and it just relaxed there. but shhhh dont tell any one.. :D

heyo welcome to the forums! i really envey your story i want to go to hawaii and get one!

more people will chime in, but i would say get some more plants, and mist the devil out of her and her cage when you spray her. and i would say let her settle in for a few weeks before handling her( unless its outta necesity) ohh and don't over heat her, jacksons dont need that high of heat, but TONS of water, so dont be frugal with the spraying!!!!
could you give a little more info about her uvb light? anyways thats definetly a jackons, AWSOME chameleons. best of luck! if you have any question dont be afriad to ask!

haha yah it was great i was on oahu island. ill be sure to mist her a lot.

and in in so cal. orange county. la habra

That is awesome. You are totally lucky as there is an amazing local support system around here.
https://www.chameleonforums.com/february-24th-tues-south-20976/

That is a link to last months South Bay Chameleon Keepers meeting. It is a great place to get networked, informed, feeders, supplies, etc, etc, etc. They meet every month.

I just became a new owner myself and got integrated with the local scene, I do not regret it.
cool! that sounds fun! ill have to make sure to go to one of those! thanks! :)

ok cool,

well today i found poop on the bottom so im assuming she ate! she hasnt pooped until today , im guessing that means she ate? im happy if she did! :)

oh yah and it seems whenever i mist the cage and her. she gets stressed or mad because she trys to walk away from the mist and turns alittle darker.. are they supposed to?
