I'm upset....

The reason of this is because....
Yesterday I went to PetSmart to get crickets. I had seen a female jackson cham in their really small tank things and I was considering rescuing it after I saw a couple of people say: "Hey, look a chameleon! Let's get it, it looks like fun!" I was gonna punch them in the face!! They didn't get it, thank god, but back to the actual story. Yesterday I went and it wasn't there!!! I was so upset because I was really gonna buy it :( It looked really sad. I asked this guy that worked there: "Hey, you had a female jacks. there, what happened?"
He said that she was probably sold... That's what I HATE about PetSmart. Most employees don't keep record of their pets. Oh, and he said "he was probably sold" with a strange tone of voice, so it probably died....
Next week, I'm gonna leave:
Jackson's chameleon care sheet
Ball Python care sheet
Turtle care sheet (it's one with red feet in the name)
I hope they actually do something. They have a lot of money (probably because of the stupid dog things they do there -.- sorry to anyone that does this; it's just stupid)
Thanks for reading this :)

could always do what people told me to do, tape a note on each animal's cage stating if its not healthy, what theyre doing wrong, and how they can fix it..then run! :p just dont get in trouble..ive tried the care sheet thing, but my petco just threw them away cuz corporate didnt approve because proper care would cut too far into their care budget -.-

Which reminds me, keep in mind that chameleons can still live in glass and don't actually need as much space as we give them.

agreed. chain stores do not really have the resources for big spacious cages, and it would be hard for people to see them (which is not what they want) but as long as everything else is fine, the chameleons will still be healthy :) but that is where the stores screw up the most :(

I would, but it's in the entrance, right next to the cash registers...
There's another PetSmat nearby, the tanks are pretty far away, maybe I could do that :p

To pssh:
Yes, I agree that they can live in glass, but they barely have airflow. It's literally like 10 small holes... They can barely breathe.
I'm gonna look for the PetSmart care sheet cause if I send them Petco, they're gonna be like whaattt?? So I will do that :)
And a cage, tank whatever, double of what they had would be better. jmo
They could take one of the dividers of the cages and take it out. Besides, the PS over here only has like 2 chameleons at a time.

i know how you feel chamomille i think i know the female you were talking about and it makes me really angry and sad to see how they keep the chameleons at PS :(

For sure sucks to see this.... All you can really do is rescue the animal yourself or be very proactive with getting information to the store, even if they think your crazy.... It really bummed me out just viewing a website selling "bulk" reptiles, they offered a start up Cham package with 30 gal glass terrium... I left the site that instantly....! the only hope is folks can educate themselves and be directed to an awesome Forum like this!!!!

A bit of advice as my father and I have both has success in improving animal cages at Pets Mart stores. The people really do care for the most part they are just often over worked and ignorant. Corporate doesn't run the day to day local managers and kids do.

My father saw a Macaw with an incorrect perch size and the wrong food. He went right to the manager and complained. Explained what was wrong, why it was wrong and suggested they fix it and that he would be back to check. I have more than once spoken to the managers about incompatible fish together.

They will fix the problems generally. Especially when you suggest you will come back to check. Every town in America has an SPCA you can contact if a store is treating animals with cruelty. Generally they will point you to a correct recourse.

Don't be sneaky just talk to the managers and the people.

Thanks for everyone's responses :) I'll try my best to suggest something, even though they wont take me seriously...
I would be relieved if at least they knew it were wrong :/
Like another time. That same female was there. I asked the cashier how old it was (to see what he would say, she was aprox 9 months i would guess). The dude said: "She's small, so I guess about 2-3 months". !!!!!!! I was gonna explode!!
Suggesting the forums would be good too, but none of the employees would get on here...

Don't waste too much time talking to the employees. Ask to talk to the manager and speak with authority. Do not leave room to not be taken seriously.

I'm not sure why you would expect to not be taken seriously. If it is age, appearance, or whatever but just remember that if you have calm serious attitude none of that matters. Keep in your mind that you are the expert, you have the knowledge, and you are on a mission to improve the lot of an animal you care about. Also keep in the front of your mind that they can't ignore or dismiss you without consequences. If you keep those things in the forefront of your mind your body language and demeanor will match and they will listen.

It is often the words and actions of a single determined person that makes the biggest difference in this world. Be that person when you witness an injustice.

What Dan said...and, to reiterate, if it's an age thing, that's really easy to understand. But if you present yourself as well read and knowledgeable and recognize their needs, they should listen to you.

Don't go in there demanding every animal be in a 4 foot tall screened enclosure.

Do--with great humility--suggest that you will ask the SPCA to check the situation, just in case you're off base. Use those words "just in case I'm off base" so they cannot accuse you of threatening them. You are offering to bring in an expert to evaluate the situation because you acknowledge that you might be wrong.

Go back in a couple of days (as you said you would) and if the situation hasn't changed for the better, call the SPCA and file a report. Remember to include in the report that you want them to check because it's your opinion based on research that the animals are in a harmful situation. Make sure you present the same concerned, respectful face when dealing with the SPCA that you did when dealing with the Petsmart manager.

Ok, I got it now :)
So I just gotta make an appointment or something and clear it out a little or call SPCA. Sounds pretty reasonable.
