Sorry if this is a repost but my phone is not working correctly today...I was wondering if 10.0 reptisun is to much uvb for my panthers

I know of a couple breeders who use 10.0 UVB when shining through mesh screen tops. I personally use a 10.0 for my Veiled so I have no say on panthers, but if breeders do it I don't see why you should worry. IMO.

I had an 18x18x36 screen cage and used a 5.0. When I moved my panther to his 24x24x48, some members on this forum suggested the 10.0 so that is what I switched to. 2 weeks into it and I don't see anything alarming. I was told the 10.0 would penetrate into the cage further.

I couldn't find an article quickly but I've read the specifications on some 5.0's vs. 10.0's and the amounts of UVB they project at given distances from the source. The 5.0 does not have as much detectable UV Rays at lets say 18 inches as it does at 5 inches. Whereas the 10.0 would be stronger at 18 inches.
I'm no expert by all means, just my take on it.

I only recommend the 10.0s at this point and use them personally. Their output is completely safe and there is no evidence (or reason why) they cause health issues in chameleons. It's just a better level of UVB, stronger than a 5.0 but still pretty gentle for all-day exposure.

WHEW....I'm glad to hear that. I was hoping I wasn't opening up a can of worms!

I'm glad you asked it. I am about to replace my UVB and was wondering the same, but was afraid to ask. I have a 5.0, but I think I will bump it up to a 10.0 based on the reponses. Thanks for your bravery.:D

Ditto !!! After getting advice from Olimpia :D and looking at a lot of research I got the 10.0 and my chems seem to be doing very well with no ill side affects. When you consider the loss through fine screen it makes good sense;)

It pisses me off when people ask a question no matter how dumb it is and someone has to be a smart ass. Hell thats what this web site is for questions and answers and to let the world know about different takes and ideas involving chameleons. This is not facebook people. HAHA

As far as Lights go I use a 5.0 but I only have an 18x18x36 cage and the mesh is so fine that I dont think you or anyone should have a problem. I wish I could scroll up and see who posted the different lengths the light travels as far as inches go. But they are right the 5.0 is perfect for 18x18x36 but when you start going bigger then the 10.0 would benefit more. I have talked with a few breeders online and in person and they said the same thing because I was gunna get the 10.0 when I couldnt find the 5.0. I hope this helps you out.
