Is a gravid female a guarentee

hi everyone, im new here and glad I found this web site. I just recently purchased a male/female pair of jackson chameleons. (not my first chameleons by the way) the previous owner said they are about a year and a year and a half. Female is older. Well the second dau I has them they were very interested in being near each other.the make even escaped from his cage and i found him on the females cage. So i decided to put them together and the next thing i know the make mounted the female. As u can see in my pics. Basically i just was wondering if insemination is usually a for sure thing or can it be possible that nothin will happen?

Could be something, could be nothing. The fact that she was receptive to his advances is a good sign though. Was your female displaying receptive coloring? I'm not real familiar with Jackson's, but in Panthers the females broadcast their readiness, or lack thereof, with their coloring. Good luck!

Na with jacksons they just display green colors if receptive and black or dark grey if not. I think she is gravid though cause soon after she couldnt stand him at all. when he would get too close she would turn completely black and headbutt him. I do need to buy a scale though

there are no guaranties in the animal world, but i would say if you witnessed a mounting, then it is far more likely than not, that your female will become gravid, and will likely be due in about 6 months.(concievably 6-10 months depending on several factors). that being said , insemination is only a small part of the puzzle. and is certainly no guaranty of a healthy clutch 6 months down the road. in order for the clutch to be healthy, now is the time to start conditioning. for a reasonable expectation of a healthy clutch, your nutritional, supplemental and husbandry in general will need to be on target for most of that time. its not realistic to expect that me or anyone else can teach you the entire subject of cham husbandry, nutritional and supplemental issues in a single post (or even several), so if you want a healthy clutch 6 months from now, then now is the time to start studying all issues in depth from a # of sources. if you have specific questions, i or other forum members will be glad to answer as best we can, but that is not a sufficient way to learn cham husbandry. also if you bought them as a pair from the same source, there is a strong likely hood that she may have been impregnated previously, in which case she might already be gravid and you may have less than 6 months. jmo ps no nesting box is required. like clea the chameleon says jacksons give live birth, almost always in the morning and usually from 10-35 in # with around 15 seeming to be the most common. having a healthy jacksons clutch is more difficult than one might expect. if she does become gravid you will likely see gravid coloration sometime within the next several months (possibly sooner).one of the more common forms of gravid coloration can be seen in this thread (see post #5 the one on the left)https://www.chameleonforums.com/expect-babies-soon-36311/index4.html if she begins to display that cinnamon coloration, then she is almost certainly gravid. jmo

Yeah thats why i wanted another jackson. Whats better than live birth! Ive had a female before but sadly she didnt make it through winter. Long story. Basically she didnt make itcause my mom found out i was using the blender to chop up crickets to force feed my cham and she made me stop. And she was getting better till then. Well the previous owner said she never saw them mate, and the female (marley) just started putting on weight. I need a scale to be sure though. She was eating very well till today. She would normally eat four crickets a day and four meal worms. But she barely ate two crickets today and just bought some more meal worms. She loves those things. Also my males front right leg is starting to swell. They both are housed with the same lighting, mist and dripper set the same. But he doesnt have the same appetite. And I think I over did the supplements. Dusted crickets with calcium and d3 every feeding. :/ could that be whats causing the swelling? Sorry this is so long but i have noone else to talk to about my chams. i just love these animals so much and there is noone i personally know that understands what im taking about when i talk about em. If any one wants to give me a call to help, feel free to ask for my info, cause i know typing long messages can take a toll on a person. Sorry again!
