As long as his basking spot is the right temp, losing the heat light at night should help his activity level go up by getting his circadian rhythm regulated and up his metabolism, not slow him down. The problem is that he doesn't know what the temps are.You said ..."Recently when I found out you're not supposed to use a night light because that's what it's meant for"...perhaps that made his cage cooler and it's slowing him down?
Is just replaced the lights now with 26W uvb 5.0 and 60w daylight light and 75w nightSo what lights are on the cage now? Does he have a basking light and a UVB light? What is the temperature in the room?
Has he been eating and pooping lately?
He's looking pretty thin. I think I would take him to a vet now.
I found out I've been using calcium with D3 for a long time but I just got the one without d3 today and also I asked someone at the petstore and they said I should feed him 20 crickets 2 days in the week. Is that right ?Well, yes you have a male and he does not appear to have Mbd. As stated, he is awfully thin. Get a fecal done and have him tested for parasites . You said he is eating about 27 feeders a week? He should not be that thin. Sleeping during the day is not good. Also the cage is way too small for an adult Veild male.
I got a another red light but this time it's 75w instead of 100w because petco is stupid and doesn't know anythingYou said ..."Recently when I found out you're not supposed to use a night light because that's what it's meant for"...perhaps that made his cage cooler and it's slowing him down?
I got a thermometer today ; I've tried to give him fruits he doesn't eat them; how much should I feed him; how to give him vitamin aYour chameleon doesn't need any light at night. If the cage is below 62at night you can use a ceramic heat emitter "bulb". During the day he needs a UVB light so he can produce vitamin D3 and use the calcium in his system and he needs a basking light. The basking light can be a regular incandescent household light of a wattage that produces the right temperature in the basking area at the top of the cage.
In addition to dusting the insects with a phosphorous-free calcium powder lightly at each feeding just before feeding them to the chameleon you need a phosphorous-free calcium\D3 powder to use twice a month and a vitamin powder with a beta carotene source of vitamin A tomuse twice a month. You also need to feed/gutload the insects with a wide assortment of greens and veggies such as dandelion greens, kale, collards, endive, escarole, carrots, squash, zucchini, sweet red pepper, sweet potato, etc and a bit of fruit such as Apple, pear, melon, berries.
How to get him to eat veggies ?Feed him enough that he doesn't get fat and isn't skinny. You can use a variety of insects such as crickets, superworms, roaches, etc and once in a while waxworms for a treat.
I've never had to give veiled any vitamin A on its own. The beta carotene in the vitamin powder and the greens and veggies used to feed and gutload the insects seem to be enough for a veiled male.
Take that red light back to the store and get your money back. NO LIGHT AT NIGHT.....I turn on the uvb and blue light during the day and the red at night ?
Okay I will but what if it gets to cold ? Should I get cermaic heater bulb? Because right now at night his cage is about 60 degrees ?Take that red light back to the store and get your money back. NO LIGHT AT NIGHT.....
2 things happen at night for him...
1. The day/night schedule sets his internal clock and regulates hormone levels and other vital internal functions. The light disrupts that circadian rhythm and messes them up. If you have had a night light on him for 2 years then he has not had proper sleep for a long time. As humans if we are sleep deprived we are a mess. So is your cham.
2. The temp drop is good for them. A temp drop helps with digestion and regulates his metabolism. Adding heat will only give him digestive issues.
Even with all the advise you have been given, your cham needs to be takes to a vet with a fresh poop sample to be checked for parasites. He is very skinny and very small for being 2 years old.
Also I'll try to take him to the vet. I'm busy during the week. Can I use carpet for the bottom of the cage ?Take that red light back to the store and get your money back. NO LIGHT AT NIGHT.....
