I have a pair of veiled chameleons that I have kept separate. Somehow the make made his way over with the female now I can't tell if she is pregnant. She eats like a horse. Now she has stopped for the time being. She is still hydrated. But is moving slower than usual.

Also I am not home with her right now. Girlfriend has been taking care of them for the last three months. She put a deep pot with soil in it for her to pay her eggs in.

she can and will produce eggs Male or not.. Good Idea to have a laying bin..

Truth Is I don't have enough experience for sure by the picture,, I leave that call to someone else one to know book learning wise, I have just not seen enough gravid vields at different stages to say for sure.. Working with a reptile vet it was always a was unless proved otherwise by X-ray or ultrasound ..on adult females..

5 months is somewhat young, to lay, but not impossible.. Higher temps and feeding can cause a female to cycle earlier.. than "average"
All females must be provided with a laying bin.. to prevent her from becoming egg bound..

you mentioned soil? did you watch the video on setting up a laying bin? its a sticky in this section..
Also a thread on feeding females to reduce egg production and to early laying too

I will disagree, reports of chams producing pretty young.. from the link too.. "Veiled chameleons can reach sexual maturity at a fairly young age with reports of some individuals becoming reproductive in as little as four months"
I have Seen a Egg bound eight month old at the clinic too.. was this animals breeder/owner so age was accurate..

Also age may be off too.. no offence to the OP.. but as veilds are sold without any hatch date information.. so age can be a guess.. or at least off by several months..

I ordered both from lll reptile and I beleive they were 4 weeks old when I got them. I wrote to them to get the age. I used soil only because my gf was leaving for Florida that day and that's all she had. I have someone responsible coming over to take care of them. She is only going to be gone for 4 days. She said she felt the side of her and it felt like eggs. She is acting allot different right now and eating habits changed allot.I will watch the video on the laying bin. I've heard soil was OK.

FALSE. That is how old we want them to wait before breeding them to be more responsible however than CAN and often do have their first clutch (infertile if not mated) before they are a year old. I have a gravid 7 month old panther female right now - her first infertile clutch.

Yours is very possibly gravid since I think I can see lumps like eggs through the skin on her side. I use a 50:50 mix of cocofiber soil and sand kept moist enough to make tunnels but not so wet they collapse. It needs to be a large opaque container.

From my experience, veils can lay a batch way before a year, I had one drop a batch at 7 months. Usually they display some different color though. But she does look a little lumpy! See pics for colors.

Wow that's a beautiful chameleon. Thanks for all the replies. I will keep you guys posted on what happens as I hear. I wish I was there to take care of her.
