I've lost my mind completely!

So, since I got my two Versicolor tarantula slings, I've found spiders more fascinating. I decided I wanted a terrestrial species that I would see sat in the open more. Started researching like mad and decided on a Brachypelma Emilia. Luckily my local exotics shop had one in so I went to look with the distinct possibility I'd bring it home. Well, all that went right out of the window when I clapped eyes on a beautiful Brachypelma Hamorii (prev Smithi). I fell in love! Such a gorgeous spider! It had moulted during the night so obviously changed its clothes for my benefit! Lmao! So, yeah, a third tarantula has entered the building!

Beautiful! For some reason I'm starting to be interested in spiders when I've been scared of them my whole life, this forum has really helped me get over that.

I've never been phobic, but my Mum is, so I think it was more learned behaviour on my part. I started with a female Regal Jumping spider, who laid a fertile sac so I've been raising slings since May when they left the nest. Exposure to spiders on a daily basis has really helped. I still can't get my head around me having spiders either!

I'm just here across the pond, shaking my head in disbelief! :p Good grief, that thing is huge!!!
Haha! It's not that big yet, only about 5cm at the moment. Makes my versicolor slings look tiny though, lol!
Is it a male or female?
I don't know. I put moult pics on a Facebook group and was told female by a few people and male by another. Sadly, a second attempt to photograph the soaked moult wasn't successful as it disintegrated. My hubby came home from work, saw the skin in a pot on the side and said 'Has it died already?' :ROFLMAO::D

Jeez Tiff, I’ve only just found this post! I’m not sure what to Say!
Are those their little eyes gleaming on their heads, I made the mistake of enlarging the photo to check and freaked out, a spider the size of my iPad! And what a spider, I almost thought they looked quite floofy and cute but I’ve changed my mind,
I can appreciate they are beautiful and handsome creatures and I’m really pleased you have them and are enjoying this new hobby! Very very brave!!!

Lmao, I find Brachypelma to be a nice species. But I love my G. Pulchra. I just had my first escape happen with Necco, and it was all because I listened to others and reduced my feeding of them. They immediately became more skittish and more likely to bolt. They also have a much smaller abdomen than they should now. I don't care what others say. My two need a small roach once a week. I don't think feeding them a huge meal twice a month is good for them anyway.

Maybe in a heavily planted vivarium where it COMPLETELY hides the fact that there's a spider in there. Then again, someone might unsuspectingly be looking in at the lovely plants, and WHAMMO here comes a big-ass spider to scare the poo out of you.

Ive also been doing some research on tarantulas and i find them so very interesting! I want to start my tarantulas journey with a Green Bottle Blue Tarantula but alas my wife absolutely does not want one in the house with my son but I told her id be safe and maybe buy a cage where i can add a padlock but the only way i can achieve this is she wants another human baby hahahah! Seems like a high cost trade dont you think?:ROFLMAO:

I would never start with GBB or anything in the old world family. Highly defensive and fast species most have either toxic venom or are more likely to bite than the new worlds.

Yeah, they look nice, but old worlds are a totally different ball game! I started with my two Caribena Versicolor slings - show her the adults, and she might like them, very pretty and fluffy. Maybe even make a shortlist if 2 or 3 species and let her choose? Another human baby would be worth more than one tarantula, lol!

My first spiders were Regal Jumping spiders. Check out the females, they are so cute and a good introduction. This us my female, Bella!

That one looks very nice! Yes I should eat atleast 5 tarantulas and a new chameleon hahahahah:LOL: but yes I’ll make a little list and thank you for the heads up. Any other beginner species your recommend?
