Jabbas New indoor palace

Spent the morning at a reptile show in Taylor Mi. Neat stuff...and a few chameleon dealers. I have to say out of all the vendors there the chameleon vendors were the least friendly. There was a lady there with a few panthers....and a great looking mature ambolobe. He was awesome. I walked up and commented on that and all I got was a eye roll. Was interested in purchasing it....but that was enough to turn me off. It was like they were to good to be at that show. That is just my point of view but all the other vendors went out of there way to get there prize pets out and let my daughter take a closer look.

Anyhow I got lucky enough to have my wife get called of work at the hospital which gave me a babysitter to watch the little girl. I went out into the garage and finished the base unit for under my new enclosure. I used a mustee laundry tub and made a trim detail to go around it and over it. In the one pic you can see I beveled the edge of it so water runoff would go directly into the tub. I have to put the panels in and stain and seal it and hook up lights, mister, humidifier and get the rock wall done.

Will post more pics of the completed cage.

wow its looking very nice! how much more do you have to do, besides the wire mesh or whatever material you are going to use on the sides?

I just have to stain and clear the base.....put the panels in the bottom and the doors on the bottom. The screens are made for the whole thing....and I have been looking for that green plastic fence like Will used in his cages...but am having NO luck at all on it. I plan for a faux rock wall detail on the back. Thats about it. It is a fun project...and I usually dont get to do any for me......the shop is always full of other peoples goodies.

I will post more as I get farther.

well sounds like alot of fun. wish i had the time to do that, but with school and work. ill just buy a nice cage. i hope to be able to do that in the future someday, lol. nothing like get your hands dirty and building something fun. anyways good luck on your project, and i look forward to seeing it when its all done

That is indeed a PALACE :) Be sure to posted updated pictures when finished. How do you get the drained water out of the tub bottom? Great work :)

Avast, matey! Be that a pair o' Systainers on your scurvy dog workbench? You must be a millionaire to be into chameleons and Festools. :)

...or just someone who wants to work efficiently and accurately. Are you on the FestoolOwnersGroup as well? Speaking of, I'd better go check on the glue up on my MFT.

PS: Nice lookin' cage, btw!

Ahhh yes...FESTTOOL. What on earth would I do with out them. I love there tools....and yes...almost had to take out a second mortgage on the house. They really are sweet and accurate. I have the saw with rails....actually 2 of them for the jobs....the rotex sander and 2 routers. I would recommend them to anyone. The saw and rail guides have almost replaced my unisaw. I am a avid powertool junkie. If it makes my job easier and BETTER I will get it.

Thanks for the compliments

I will have a drain with a screen in it to protect against an crickets going awol and there is enough room under there to get a 2 gal container to catch the excess water and I should be able to get my ultrasonic humidifier and home made auto mister system down there as well. I had to build it based on the ceiling height in my basement........if there comes a time my wife insists he goes down there. Not to worry though, there are a few egress windows that open and flood the place with lots of light. Might even try to incorporate them into an enclosure some how to.

We have pretty much the same setup, I think. My TS55 hasn't replaced my table saw, it's my only saw. In fact, Festools are the only real power tools I have other than a drill press and miscellaneous other things. When the DeFault drill's batteries finally go, I'm going to go the C12 drill route. Not cheap (what is with them?), but man, the most useful drill on the planet, by far. Buy cheap, buy twice, ya know. I've never actually owned a router until I
bought the OF1400. Woo hoo. That thing is nice. I'm sure I'll be leaving it to my son in my will. I also have the MFT1080, RO150FEQ, and CT22, but you know how that goes: you can't buy just one and eventually, you'll have it all. I'm just glad they don't make a full sized planer or I'd be in serious trouble! :)

After building the cages I'm doing now, I'm seriously considering one of the 2700 guide rails. I'm sick of having to join and unjoin those 1400s all the freaking time. If the client does open the petstore he's mentioned, it's Domino time!

I'm looking forward to building a nice, furniture quality cage (probably pretty similar to yours) for the veiled one day, but it will have to be after Hallowe'en.

Oh and Chad...heck, if you can't build anything out of wood, at least you know someone with some extremely portable tools. :)

I have to outfit 2 trucks so I have a lot of double festtool poduct. I was thinking if I put all my rails together I could straight rip over 24'. The long solid rail is the bomb....and so is my 32". It works great for cross cuts of plywood for shelving and such. I personally dont see to much use in the domino tool. We need to be quick and tight on the job so for all face frames and such we use the kreg pocket joining system. It is probably my favorite tool. Just square cut.....drill...clamp....screw and sand. No more pipe clamps and dry time. The plugs they sell to fill the holes are money down....perfect.

But this is a chameleon forumn...so.....CHAMELEONS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Any resourses for green plastic fence like Will uses????

the foam and paint

Well I managed to find enough time to get the foam on and start painting it. There are 3 plant cups located around the branches (masked in blue tape during paint) that will house some cham friendly plants. Its all coming together but not fast enough. I had to bring Jabba in from his outside dwelling due to some sudden cold temps.

Will post more as I get them.
