Jackson Chameleon. HELP NOW!!

What a shame that the petstore didn't even know what species they were selling. I don't think they have any right to pawn animals when they don't have any knowledge about them at all. Unlikely that the eggs are any good since they're probably not fertile. Sorry for your loss. :( If you are interested in getting another one you will probably need to make some changes to your setup (especially if you get another female) since the petsore probably gave you other bad advice as well, as they are notorius for doing. Please ask questions and take a look around here on the forums to make sure you have everything set up correctly first.

lol!, sorry. disregard my first response i didnt realize there was a second page and that you had already uploaded a pic.

YES that is a veiled, and sorry for your loss but as long as youve begun the incubation process this will turn out bitter sweet for you.

do some more research, there are a few incubation methods choose whichever suits you best. if they have gone moldy or have become dedicated they are in all likelihood not viable or infertile.

one tip i have for you that many people dont mention is to make sure you use NONchlorinated water in your incubation medium. ive used everything from pearlite and vermiculite to soil and coconut fiber and seen no benefit of one over the other.

if the eggs do turn out to be viable i would highly recommend getting another chameleon in the mean time, preferably a veiled (theyre very hardy and bounce back from novice mistakes). this time get a male so you dont have to deal with complications like these in the future. just makes sure you do lots and lots of research. with chameleons you cant just read a book and know everything even seasoned veterans of the hobby can learn more

Please do your research before you get another chameleon. I know you were misinformed, but you could have figured that out by doing independent research, as everyone who cares for exotic animals should. You said the pet store told you that she was a Jackson's who might be pregnant and lay eggs, and if you had done adequate research you would have quickly discovered that those don't coincide. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it pains me to read stories like this. Her death could have easily been prevented by simply providing a laying bin. Heartbreaking.

Here is a great place to start learning about egg laying with female veileds: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html

I am very sorry for your loss.

Sad story...poor girl :( never trust petco employee's, lol...you would think they'd need some kind of degree to work there or something

yet another reason you should not support pet stores in any way except for animal SUPPLIES

and more importantly another reason pet stores should NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL ANIMALS.

However, I would have to agree to some extent with JRChameleons that you should have done proper research when bringing home ANY animal....

EDIT: Did the petco give you a CARESHEET when you purchased it? They are legally obligated to (at least in CA, I believe its a federal requirement not sure tho). Please check what the caresheet you got says. If you can establish evidence that they indeed told you it was a jacksons, they may have broken some laws and you should contact the local DA or police regarding that. It can hopefully result in criminal fines against the pet store.
