Just realized this thread was here! About Crested...

I can't believe any one would not give crickets as part of a diet, and solely rely on a man made product. I give my two, Pangea every day and and throw crickets in every other night. I gutload my crickets with Repashy bug burger too.

Believe it or not, there is a lot of information out there that says "gecko diet" only is better. I'm happy to offer crickets. Had to convince my daughter that live food was not bad. I hate being misinformed. Working on rectifying now. Poor baby.

I breed geckos but I also am one of those few people in the crested gecko world who doesn't beleive in relying on premade diets. He needs dusted insects at least twice a week if you want him to grow at a decent rate with that type of Pangea. At his age two heavy mists a day are needed. He is not a juvenile he is likely around 3 months old and was fed improperly for a growing gecko. They grow very very slowly if not fed properly because people get them as a first reptile but just accept info that is spoon fed to them.

Thanks for the info. We're going to work on rectifying the situation. He is not our first reptile, but he is our first crested, and we were definitely accepting the info spooned to us. Not knowing what was normal put us at a very big disadvantage in realizing we had a problem. He was sold to us as a juvenile.

There is a bunch of info and a bunch of keepers out there that say only feeding premade, but I don't find it to be normal and actually causes slow growth which is you look at more recent studies of their diet in the wild is not surprising. If you need any help just ask with diet issues. A lot of people just go along with what the majority say and don't question it.. I actually left a Facebook page because when I did question it I got attacked.

When I got my two guys, I was told at the show Pangea was all I needed. I guess people will tell you anything to make a buck. :( Sooo sad. I had red eyes tree frogs before so I'm not new to useing crickets as food.

A lot of keepers are... sensitive if you tell them to use anything other than Pangea or too much insect. I showed what I do and within seconds got attacked and no one gave me give seconds to explain. I left the group and got pissed, I never do that. Repashy and Pangea are mostly marketing I can tell you that, and almost no one on the crested community except those who keep other reptiles who are hugely insectivores know about supplementing or gutloading. The thing is they have been made blind and about 90% of them choose to stay that way. I am not at all saying you guys are like this, just telling you what the majority is like. Apparently everyone seems to think unless we feed exactly what is available in their ecosystem in the wild their pro/prebiotics are thrown off. It makes me laugh because repashy and Pangea aren't made with their fruits and veggies and they don't have prebiotics and prebitiotics are received from fiber.

I think it may have a lot to do with many people detesting insects and probably chose the crested due to the insect- less diet that was advertised. I can tell you my daughter was one of those. She hates crickets. Thankfully she hates the fact her gecko is not growing even more.

A crested gecko was my first reptile for that fact. Boy they sure had the care they had given me all wrong. He's going on 7 now.

Woah! 1g is way too tiny to be sold imo. The smallest one I ever hatched was 1.7g. Use empty clean pill packet/blisters as food and water bowls. If that was mine I would keep it on a small enclosure with paper towel on the bottom to keep track of poop. They barely eat a couple of licks at that size so if you have a large food pot then you won't see what it's eating. Feel free to pm me if you need more help! Pangea is the best food, but try the one with insects in as it will build the baby up better with its protein content.

I think he is growing a little now. We've been adding tiny crickets, and he eats one occasionally that we can see. I weighed him again today and he was 3g, so I wonder if I got a bad weight that first time?

No if you are feeding correctly these guys gain weight quicker than most people realize and not dangerously fast. Both my two hatched out just above 1 gram, now one is already almost 3 grams and one is about 2.5 and they are only like 2 weeks old?
