Just wondering. Chameleon bites

Just wondering.. have any of you guys been bitten before? If so, how does it feel? Tell what you did that made them bite you. Thanks :)

My male booberry (Currently my avatar picture) is blind in his right eye. As a result I like to hand feed him to make sure he is getting enough food. The first time I did it he missed the item I was holding and hit my thumb and he pulled it in and gave it a chomp. Scared the heck out of both of us. I was, HECK HE JUST BIT ME! and he was, DAMN! THAT TASTED HORRIBLE!. LOL It was the only time he bit me. Now my female Nosy Be would chew my arm off if she could. And they have some pretty impressive teeth.

If you ever do get bit remember to wash really good.

I'm fine. Like I said it really scared both of us. I did bleed a little bit but not bad at all. But if they want to really chomp down and not let go I could see a pretty nasty bit resulting.

And that big sucker on the end of the tongue feel soooo weird.

LOL All in the life of a Cham owner.

:)

It's very interesting though, you're the first person I know who has experienced that. Your chameleon is beautiful though. I love his colors :)

It must depend on the size of the cham and how irritated he is with you, too.
My K. multi bit me between the thumb and pointer finger and held on with all his might.
He didn't succeed in breaking the skin but it did leave a bunch of red tooth marks.

like the prior member said it depends on the size of the chameleon I've been bitten by a lot of Panthers but it's more a the scare the reaction that you get from being bitten the actual bite.

I had a male 1year old panther. He was a little aggressive when I first had him at this age. He climbed onto my hand while hissing and jerking his head at me. Like a dummy, while I was pulling him out his cage, I placed my thumb around him so he was enclosed in my hand. (Never do this). He turned around and bit fiercely into my hand, and it almost felt like a small dog bite. He broke skin and drew a tiny bit of blood.

If they really want to bite you, it can hurt...

There is a thread about this very topic with pics. Someone got gashed up something fierce. I resorted to wearing a golf glove with my verrucosus.

I have only been bitten by mistake when they thought my hand was a worm or something.
When it's by mistake, it doesnt hurt, feels like being pinched with piece of
sandpaper but it can leave a little red mark on the skin for a few minutes.

On the other hand, if they are really scared or mad and bit you, it would
likely hurt and draw blood.

Their teeth are small, but very sharp, and most of the damage is from jerking
back when they clamp hold, it causes a tearing wound.

Just watch the warning signs: hissing, puffing up, etc. and NEVER reach your hand in back of them where they cant see.'
Always make sure they can see you, dont spook them, or they may bite w/o
first showing any warning, out of fear!!

And I do have a pair of work gloves handy, just in case, but so far have never needed to ware them :)

The first cham I had was basically blind in both eyes with the tumor growths (some may remember Kiwi who developed squamous cell carcinoma). I had to hand feed her close to her mouth since she would not shoot her tongue out very far. Well needless to say she stretched out a couple times and got a hold of me and the cricket. No blood, or skin breaks, felt like one of those chip clips you put on bags with the little teeth.

Our veileds rarely hiss or puff up so I'm thankful to say I've yet to be bitten. Intact they are the only reptile that hasn't bitten me...yet. Both male and female have caught me with their tongues tho. The male went for my eyeball. Thank god I wear glasses!

my male would get super aggressive when i would try to pull him out of the mating cage. didnt know their jaws were that powerful. broke skin easily

My veiled gal Ripley bit me a couple of times. Both when I was trying to get her off the tree to put her back in her enclosure.
The first time was alright, the 2nd was quite sore. She really went for it though:eek:
So, I got snake handling gloves. She can bite as much as she wants now! Although, she is getting better with handling.
