Looking to get into the chameleon hobby. I am planning on getting a juvi veiled or a baby 2 1/2"-3" long and am wondering what would be the maximum size cage out of these aluminum screen cages?? Looking for an enclosure that I could get by with having for more than a few months. Thanks!

If you get a male, you're going to need a 24X24X48 at around 6 months anyways.

Since you shouldn't purchase a chameleon really younger than 3 months, especially if its your first time.. No matter what size baby cage you get, it will only really last 3-4 months.

If you go to cages.net and click on "Todays special value" they have an 18X23X11 that I like for $35.

But the best advice I can give you is to save the $35+Shipping, and considerable expense that feeding a baby cham can be.. and apply that money towards a 6-7 month old veiled. That way you only have to buy one cage, and you will have an animal that is well established.

i used to have 4ft tall x 3ft wide x 22in deep enclosure, i have a female veiled and i felt it was to small now that shes full grown and upgraded to 7.5ft tall x 5ft wide x 3.5ft deep... thats me though i guess, im used to 120 gallon fish tanks for just a few fish, i know they love the room, theyll always use it if its done right. i say as much as your wallet can afford, if anything custom build like i do and it doesnt cost much! step up sizes with age if you can.

I know we always say bigger is better .... but that seems pretty extreme to me.
The only way you would ever be able to find her is because she has a favorite spot or area which would probably fit quite easily into a 16x16x30 enclosure.
I have observed that females seem to feel safer and more relaxed in tighter quarters. They don't have the need or desire to patrol like the males do.
I would use your female veiled enclosure for a pair or trio of Melleri.

accually my female roams around everywhere, she has multiple favorite spots, and sometimes its a little wheres waldo game to find her but give me 30 seconds and ill find her, for a fact she changes sleep spots and roams often, she loves it, but then again she was free range for a while to, its all in how you present it to your chameleon ive found... its a closet and everything for her is above 2.5ft in the air and nothing above 6ft to keep her out of reach of the lighting, so yes it all depends on how you use the space..... maybe its just my cham i dont know but she doesnt seem to be an oddball and its perfectly fine and should be for any cham...

Thanks for every ones help!! Ok so if I get a 6-7 month old male, he can live in a 24x24x48 enclosure for his entire life? If I get a 6-7 month old female she could live in a 16x16x30 for her entire life? What would be better for the female out of the 16x16x30 and the 18x23x11 ??

thats what im saying though even my female got cramped in her first enclosure i built, she was trying to get out, so i bought a ficus and would leave her cage open and shed go to it most of the time, all on her own without forcing her, they are very curious...

How do you drain the water out of the aluminum screened enclosures? How do you all make the drain holes?

hello fellow tarantula owner, b. smithi's are great... not sure about your drain hole issue i just use a water dish to catch the drips and clean the bottom every few days...

Welcome to the forums! You might like to build your own cage. It's allot of fun and very rewarding to see your finished product. If you'd like, go to my profile and take a look at my cage albums, and see some of the cages that I built.
