Kind of a bit confused here?! :/

hi everyone so I'm pretty sure panthers shouldn't be housed together after a certain age. I'm a newbie here so I was a bit confused when the owner of this reptile shop told me it was perfectly fine to keep a male and female together. He was trying to sell me the pair for 250. I was very tempted to take that offer but I had to step back and sleep on that decision as I only have room for one more cage. Let me know what you guys think. Here are some pics of the chams.

It is not fine. The female will constantly be stressed by the male to mate. One of them will likely be bullied into eating less. You will have a gravid female all the time which will greatly shorten her life span. Not fine at all. Because those eggs will be fertile and then you have to deal with babies.

Don't listen to that shop owner! Just from looking at your pics of the 2 chams, most experienced keepers would recognize that they were stressing each other right while you watched! Poor things, no cover, in the shop, and a constant stressor to boot. I wonder how much of the day that male spends fired up. Babies up to a couple of months old could be kept together, but usually one starts dominating the other. Andee is right...the female will be constantly pestered by the male. BTW, healthy panthers can cost $250 apiece...so coaxing you to take the pair at that price seems desperate or sketchy.

I just had a shop owner tell me that the 2 Carpets where different than other chameleons and were able to be housed together. He was wrong and I had to hurry up and get them separated. They are just trying to sell the pair to you.

Thank you for the info everyone! Good thing I didn't buy the pair. I would've been stuck with grumpy and unhealthy chams. I called the store again today and spoke with someone else regarding the chams. The person said they are selling them both for 250 because the male has MBD:( so needless to say I do t think the shop or breeder seem to care about their chams. Makes me sad. If I had the space I would buy them both and set them, up properly.

Good thing that u call them and find out more info, cause MBD is a very serious problem for a chameleons,it requires medical help from the Vet,and since the male has MBD,they shouldn't even put them together in the first place, those constant chasing n running away are very extremely stress for either the male n female,U should also let the store know about Its absolutely never ever put the male n female together, since they have no clue about these panther chameleons at all, give them the care sheet info from this forum so they can learn the proper way of cageing these beautiful n precious panther chams.

Well, we don't know anything about these chams other than what the store person said, but someone could have abandoned the pair in that condition. I'm not making excuses for their poor care, just suggesting another possibility. But, knowing one of them has MBD and not describing what they intend to do about it or how they are treating it doesn't sound good to me.

they said what they intend to do, sell them cheap and let the new owner deal with it.
