Leaving crickets in a terrarium.

You shouldn't. Gut load your chameleons crickets with carrots :/
Carrotanoids are not good for chameleons.

Funny, because almost every article I've ever read in regards to gutloading, says that carrot shavings are a great source of nutrition and they are also good for hydration of the crickets because the carrot shavings hold a lot of moisture.

Even the RESOURCES section here on the forums for gutloading feeders has carrots on the list of good things to feed your crickets and other insects.

I've visited many websites that sell chameleons and other reptiles, talked to many breeders, skimmed through many threads here, and I've read countless articles that deal with the best things to gutload your insects with. And carrots was on probably 99.9% of everything I've ever seen/read as far as the wet vegetable/fruit portion of your gutload is concerned.

I'm not saying you're wrong about the carrots, I'm simply saying that there's a whopping amount of people out there that believe otherwise, DO otherwise, and RECOMMEND otherwise. The people that have been breeding for 20+ years probably know what's best.... That's all I'm sayin. So that's what I follow - the words of those who who are the most experienced.

:)

This is an old thread but I’m here because this just happened to my anole :( hopefully if someone else does a search they will read this.

I’ve had him since September and have always put all the crickets in with him but this time they chewed on him pretty bad. He’s alive but I’m pretty sure he won’t make it. They chewed his tail off and some holes in his arms. And his nose. He was hiding in one of his “caves” so I did not see the crickets all over him until it was too late. I feel terrible! I am a vet tech and feel like I should have known better. It’s probably very rare but it’s possible as I found out today.

Sorry to hear that about your anole. Glad you shared your story. It will definitely be good for people to hear this.
