when i bought my vield the shop owner told me a male should live for 5years and females only 2-3 is this true?

thanks john

Most of my veiled females live to be over 6 and some of them over 7 years old...the males live even longer.

although males tend to live longer than females, if in good care you can be luccky to have a male for up to 8 years, and females 6 - 7

ohok cheers guys i was thinking of my next cham to be a female but was put off being told only 2-3years expectancy

thanks again

john :)

The females life expectancy will only be determined on if you breed her or not and if the clutches are large or not.

I have a female that has laid 30 eggs each clutch and has only laid 2 clutches and she is 3 years old.

Some people have females that dont live long past 3 years as they lay large clutches and often enough to shorten her life.

her life would be shorter if bred
and depends oon how big the clutches are and how often she lays:(
think im right on this 1 not to sure ive neva kept female chams ive got 2 males
any1 correct me if im wrong

Veiledowner is correct, her life will be shortened if she is bred often. And unfortunetly she might lay infertile eggs which will still take her life down. Although you can avoid her developing eggs, keep the temps lower, dont feed her alot and dont ever show her to a male.
If you want to breed her then for the time you make the temps higher, feed a bit more (with alot more calcium) and let her breed with a male.
Then when she has laid you must give her alot of protein to build up her strength and get her normal and healthy again, after a few weeks of recovery, change back to the normal feeding and lower temps.

It works for me but I dont know if it will work for you, it all depends on the conditions

wow you guys really know your stuff theres so much info to take in, if i did get a female id have to look into it alot more

thanks alot for the help
