Ok I'm trying to figure out how to do my new babies cage before I get him I have read everywhere that you do not set your basking light on your screen cage beause it will make the screen burn up???then I read that it is totally ok just to make sure that the vines and the branches are not touching the the top of screen where the light is what is your suggestions and how is your cage set up with lighting?? Oh also how do you have your UVB in a fixture with a tube bulb or just a bulb?? ( I guess that's how it is if that makes sense haha)

Thank you guys!

I personally have always put the basking light right on the screen, and never had any issues. With the vines, you want the perch he's going to be on to be far enough down so that he can stand there comfortably and not burn their backs against the bulb.

And yes, I have a linear fluorescent (reptisun 5.0) in a linear fixture from Home Depot.

Me too.

With mine- I go out and cut a bunch of tiny twigs from the bushes and just fill the enclosure with them from bottom to touching the top and from side to side. I fill it loosely enough that the baby chameleons can easily move, but full enough that they can find all sorts of variance in temperatures and proximity to lights (UVB and heat). That way the lizards can and do choose what they need without hurting themselves. They never have to choose bask and cook or avoid cooking and remain too cool because they have lots of choices. Mine have never burned- even though they can climb branches right up next to the bulb or even hang from the screen right below and an inch or two from the light bulb. If they get that close by choice they hotfoot it out of there immediately and don't stay long enough to burn.

It Is only dangerous If you notice your chameleon likes to climb on the the mesh top, which some chameleons do... Myne sits on the screen and that will probley change when my chameleon is an adult.
