Right.. Please dont all shout at me at once... But when I bought my chameleon :)not long ago, all she came with was a mesh exo terra cage. Shes 2ish. I took her to vets when I got her! he said she was lovely an healthy! We live in south Africa in Durban where its hot an humid virtually all year round. She now has a huge mesh cage outside an one inside, so in the day she goes outside an I bring her in in the night( that's what the man did who had her, he also successfully bred from her). Does she also need a heat/uv lamp?? I keep hearing conflicting stuff an it worries me im not doing the best for her!!

Hi man...

I'm also from South-Africa. Its good that you are concerned about your chameleons health.

can you please see this sticky about how to ask for help.

This will help us help you :)

I think its going to be difficult for anyone to answer your question not knowing what what type of chameleon you have, what temps she is subjected to outside as well as inside. However, if you keep her outside all day long, I doubt you will need to purchase any lighting - but more info will get you better advice.

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? She a 2 year old female veiled in my care 3 months.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Shes very friendly, she comes down to me.. prob twice, 3 times a week
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? She loves loves loves super worms, not so keen on roaches or crickets, but occasionally will. if i feed her roaches, im lucky if she ll eat 2?? superworms about 5 a day sometimes less, shes not greedy at all!? I gut feed on apples, carrot..
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? I use Zoo med calcuim d3 twice a week an reptivite once every 2 weeks.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? I never see her drinking unless I mist her so she has it dripping into her mouth?? I mist her 4 times a day for like a minute.
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? hard brown nuggets!! Nope not while in my care.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. I have no history but the guy said he bred successfully with her.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? her cage is 100 gallon exo terra mesh.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? I have no lights this is my question, she has never has lights at all?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? I have no idea if Im honest
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? again no idea.. sounds awful eh??
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? She is place on a table indoors at night an hung up when she outdoors.
Location - Where are you geographically located? Ballito, south africa.

Phewww:p So now thats all her info!!

If shes getting natural sunlight, that is great! As long as your temps are dropping 10 to 15 degrees at night you will be ok to leave her outside. What are your night time temps? Moving her in and out is not really good for her stress level.

Im no expert but heres my 2 cents worth. If kept outdoors and gets natural sunlight no additional lighting is really needed. The calcium with d3 schedule is usually once/twice a month and without d3 at every feeding. Multi vitiman once a month.

Yay!! I put her inside at night.. the temp isnt really that cold but too cold at the moment for her and :( i worry for her!! shes a pretty chilled out thing to be fair.. only seen her major stressed once an that was when we were transporting her home!! when I open her cage she climbs right out onto my arm!!??!! should i get a heat lamp for the night?? Thanks soooo much guys x x

Cool down on the D3 and substitute it with plain Calcium!! No light at night,,,if anything grab yourself a ceramic heat emitter,,,but first just a thermometer to measure your night temps!!
