Limb grabbing, he’s having a hard time ungripping his arm, what’s wrong?? :(

My chameleon will grab on to his arm with his leg and will have a hard time un gripping. It only happens when i hold him.Doesnt happen all the time, but often enough. At times he will naturally un grip himself and but other times are challenging. I saw online that it is usually a sign of MBD but physically he looks healthy and I have been supplementing him well (calcium with out D3 everyday, calcium with d3 twice a month). What is wrong with him? also hasnt been eating very well. Will only want to eat crickets.

Hi and welcome. I’m sorry that your handsome guy is doing weird things. That usually is one of the signs of mbd. What type of uvb light are you using? Can you post some pics of your enclosure? Are you using a multivitamin at all?

Hi. Thank you for answering! I dont know how it would be MBD with his supplements and light, i’m hoping he doesnt have that

He’s only 6 months. I dust his bugs every day with calcium and 4 times a week with bee pollen. And calcium with D3 every other week.

His light is a 10.0 UVB. Maybe uvb is too much?

Your uvb is a bit strong…should be either 5.0 or 6%, but that shouldn’t cause this problem. Your supplements are fine and I’m seeing no reason for mbd, so it has to be something else. Grabbing at his legs seems like a neuromuscular symptom. Have you or do you use any chemicals around him? Any aerosols/sprays, cleaners, pest control, etc? Do you wash the plants before putting them in his enclosure? What are you feeding his feeders?

How does he do walking on his branches ? That behavior is usually a sign of mbd, gout or injury. How old is your uvb buld and the distance between it and the basking branch ?

Hi, thank you for answering! He does fine walking on branches. Goes around the cage fine. My UVB bulb is 5 months old. it is a 10.0 UVB. I will attach a picture so you can see the distance between the basking and UVB light, Thank you for your help.

ok, I will get him a light that is 5.0 for his health. There are not chemicals around him. His cage is in my room. Plants I do wash before putting them in the enclosure. For his feeders, I dont feed the worms but I do feed the dubia roaches and crickets carrots. I Finally found a vet near me that specializes in "exotic animals". waiting for them to call me and see if they treat chameleons.
