Sort of an odd question..

Can chameleons sense sound? In other words to they actually have "ears"?

Also..
What can I do to help her poop? I cleaned the cage the other day and since I took the bark she's normally use to out of the cage (since I heard it was useless and a health risk) she hasn't passed anything, although she's been eating and drinking like normal. help!!

I don't know if she pooped before I took the stuff out, but since Sunday night I don't think there's been any movement.

Chameleons do not have an outer ear. As dodolah said they have a very good sense of vibration. Here is an excerpt from Masters of Disguise, A Natural History of Chameleons, that thoroughly explains their extent of hearing.

"In place of the ear opening, a membrane of skin on the side of the skull called the auditory area registers airborne vibrations and transmits them to a delicate bony structure called a pterygoid plate. Embedded in tissues within the skull, the plate relays the vibration down a twisting and constricted pathway leading to the inner ear. Compared to the open pathway of the human ear (outer ear), the chameleon analogue is inefficient, loosing most of the higher frequencies. While the ear can register sound from 100 to 10,000 cycles per second, it senses 200 and 600 cycles best. Chams don't respond to tonse much above middle C. If they listened to music, they would favor works for the tuba. Whatever use they have for sound, it exists in the lower registers."

As for the constipation, a very small drop of cod liver oil can be used to help ease constipation. Many times a shower will induce a bowel movement ;) In serious instances a warm soak could be considered.

oh, thanks for that! Explains a lot...if the constipation continues we'll be sure to soak her in warm water.

WELL DARN! lol I came back into the room to check her out and there's a huge crap on the bottom of the cage. Now my concern is..why is it so shiny and orange-toned? By shiny I mean wet-looking...
