Oh mann what a scare!!!! I thought this needed it's own thread since the other one got a little ridiculous and people probably stopped visiting it. I posted the story there... so here is the link so you can read what happened. Thanks again to everyone (except a specific unnamed sour German:rolleyes:).

That's amazing! Congratulations mate! I doubt there is anything that'll feel better than this right now! What great news!

Joe ....

Dude, congrats, but you have to tell us the story of his reappearance ! However many lives a chameleon has, Lombardi had to at least use up a couple ! Bush tipped over .... crow feather .... you were there almost immediately ..... even if he just came strolling back with a crow feather hanging from HIS mouth, you gotta tell us

how? Is he ok? Pictures!!

Soot glad he is back!! I told ya!!

This post for the details.

Great stuff. The solution seems so simple now that you read it. I am so happy it all worked out, nobody likes losing an animal they care for, and scares like this make you appreciate them that much more. Hope Lombardi had fun!

I posted the other story in the original thread I linked to above... but I'll just post it again here...:D Thanks though Chambabysitter.

Yes Chamaeleo Calyptratus... Veiled Chameleon, Just a lizard... But a lizard that I have raised from 12 grams to almost 200, spent hours upon hours of my life, and hundreds of dollars on just this little chameleon to make sure I am doing everything necessary for this cham to live a happy comfortable life in my possession. And watching him thrive in my possession and learn to trust me, has added to my attachment. So I guess if you look at it... While he is just a lizard... He is actually a lot more than that to me. If you can't understand that(which I know most on this forum can), then you should have been hugged more as a child. Maybe I am a naive animal freak...but I love that lizard... Which makes him a loved one in my book.

BUT ANYWAY!!!!

LOMBARDI IS BACK!!!!!!!

I AM ECSTATIC!!!!

SLOWFOOT!!! I owe it all to you!!!

I'm betting that if he got a good bite in, a crow would drop him. Chams are also very responsive to, and good at escaping, bird predators. It's possible he used the classic cham 'drop to the ground and run like heck' move. He could still be nearby.

When I lived in SoCal, I caught two large male veileds that were just running loose, so he could be okay out there for a long time. Have you considered borrowing someone's female veiled to use as 'bait'? Set up a female in a screen cage in areas that look likely - doesn't matter if she's receptive or not. A friend of mine who lost a male panther used this technique and recovered his cham.

Just suggestions. I'm very sorry for your loss
I had never even thought of this... But when I read your post when I was at home for lunch today I thought that was a great Idea... Lombardi LOVES the ladies. So I took his lady Sookie out in a cage that was visible from most parts of the area... And let her stay in there while I went back to work for the last half of the day. When I got home I went right to the cage... And sure enough... Lombardi was hanging on the side of the cage with his colors flaring. He is FINE! No visible marks or scratches! He did seem quite shaken up and actually very aggressive with me for the first time since I owned him when I brought him in. I am thinking the crow tried to land on the tree to grab him, knocking the tree over, and giving Lombardi time to duck into the bushes real quick.... Thank Goodness!!!

I have to sincerely thank everyone who posted with such kind words... I don't know I would have ever found him had it not been for the people on this forum offering me advice and condolences, but most of all...telling me not to give up. I am so happy right now...

I will stop before someone tells me there are better things in the world to be happy about.

Thanks Again Guys!!!

I agree Jim, I think he burned a couple of those... With the armies of squirrels and giat crowsa around my place... he is definately an illusive little sucker.

how cool!! Lets this be a lesson to everyone not to give up hope of they think their cham is gone!! The whole thing about using a girl to lure him back its freaking great!! haha:D

Joe just want to let you know I couldn't be happier for you. I will even admit that I cried when I thought you had lost him. A BIGGGGGGGGG WELCOME HOME LOMBARDI. :):D:):D:):D

That was freaking brilliant!

I'm totally amazed. Glad you got him back!

I KNEW IT!!!!
I got a big hunch in my mind saying that Lombardi might still alive and well.
I'm glad you found him!

I'm really happy to hear about it Joe. This is how I get most of my male veiled rescues you know!!! I might have come across him eventually. :)

Maybe I should start a new business...

I can see it now.... acquire a few female panthers, veils, jacksons, etc... and then open up shop. My ad could read "So you've lost your best breeder? no problem, here at "Rent a Wench" we've got the gal you need to find the guy you breed. LOL.

Just kidding of course.

SoCaliSon, words can't describe how happy I am for you. Don't worry about the few that think it's ridiculous to feel emotions when you're in a situation like that. They are the rare breed here.

You started a new thread! That's appropriate in this case. Definitely.

Congratulations, Joe!

This is such great news. There are quite a few of us on the forum who feel a strong connection to Lombardi. You must have been indescribably overjoyed. Most of all for getting him back, but also the incredible joy you must have felt as your guilt was relieved and released. I think I actually felt worse for you than for Lombardi. Another happy ending, and a great idea for others to use who run into the same situation. Thank you for having the guts to begin this story, and how wonderful that we get to experience this terrific ending together.

Sorry for all the schmaltz, here, but I am being totally sincere.

Oh man-I am just sitting here smiling like an idiot and so relieved for you and Lombardi that this adventure is over! :):):):)
