Lost Chameleon

Thanks very much jdog1027, the flashlight approach seems the most promising. I just hope he's not gotten too cold over last night :/
Where in England are you? We have a heatwave, he'll be fine for a while, I hope you find him soon though! Bringing the viv and a heatlamp out might bring him in. I'd try putting it out all day and looking in as big circle as often as possible, starting at the outside so you don't accidently drive him away.

I'm in York, and it's fairly cool up here lol. The issue with searching is we live on a farm and have a MASSIVE garden surrounded by fields of crops....

I think/hope he'll have just settled in a tree somewhere.

Hull's not that far - I got sunburnt a bit yesterday (spent the whole day in the park). It's been good today as well, cloudier in the late afternoon though. They can easily take the night temps right now, so decide how far it's worth looking and spiral your way in.
How old/big is he?

To help those who might not understand

Since you cant understand it, let me clarify for you.... Well it all started about last year when I decided to make a year-around outdoor cage...

I had some ideas for the bottom, but at the time, did not have it completely caged off (my reason for now loving chicken wire).

Well my cham, decided to squeeze through the bottom plastic part and escape.

Trying to remedy the problem, I tweaked the cage with the plastic to no avail.

Since Ive added chicken wire..there has been no escape. Get it?
Some pics to help those visual learners ;)

1. Plastic Flooring 2. Under plastic (where he got out) 3. The one that got away.. Left side, second thing.

We've just been to look with a flashlight.... it's such a massive garden i don't think we'll ever find it. We've left a heatlamp out (one for ostrich chicks - i think it'll be powerful enough) with its wire trailing onto the ground so hopefully we'll find the chameleon has climbed up the wire tomorrow :)

Well best of luck. Dont give up. Keep your chin up!

Keep on looking and don't give up because he's out there. Check the closest tree to where you left him. He probably went up the closest tree.

We took all the tactics we could but we've still not found him. It's been over 48 hours since he disappeared and he's not in the surrounding trees or area. We're at a loss of what to do. Hopefully one of us will spot him in the corner of our eye - things like that happen. Thanks very much for all of your advice - we took it all into account but by now we think he's way out of reach. :(

lost cham

hi my name is tyler and i was reading ur post and i normally leave one cham on my tree out side for days even weeks at a time and he has been great and comes for food on his own. but when he does hide for days i have found a few tricks to finding him .. first is to get a ladder and stand high and realize they wont move much when they see u unless they think u cant see them so try and have few extra eyes on hand then next trick i have is courting them with a female or another male to make him brighten up and come to me ill put the other cham in a cage and hang him/her in the tree or shrub area. This is also how i field collect some. one of my last tricks are to water the yard and normally they freak out and move unlike the rest of your garden you can also put cups of food near by. my best bet is to sit on a ladder for hours studding branches and leafs its what i do when i freak out and cant find mine but he will stay semi near by if u have a garden cause it will have bugs now u just got to worry about bad bugs and pestasides.let me know if any of this helps or if u need some other tricks.

sorry and i know the feeling much love tyler

He is not out of reach. He is out there waiting for you to find him. Don't be discouraged if you don't find him soon, mine was lost for 3 months until I finally found him on a plant directly infront of my house! Keep searching for him and you will find him.

Fact. Thompson is 100% on this one. Your Cham is superbly adapted to live and hide and eat insects in your garden. He has probably not gone far, but is hard for you (or any predators) to see. He is too delicate to survive our winter so find him and don't let go again. It is still worth looking - trust us on that one..:)
