The pics are on order within 24 hours ! I used d3 calcium first of all !! And exo terra uvb 100 x 2 with a heat lamp as well 60 watt exo terra bulb ! Exo terra vitamins for chams and zoo med calcium with d3 ! Dusted daily was my biggest mistake

Hi and welcome to the forum. I’m sorry that you lost your cham. While I see several errors in keeping from your pics and supplement info, the best way to find all errors and correct them in order to start again successfully would be to fill this out.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

  1. The more details you provide the better and more accurate help you will receive.
  2. Photos can be very helpful.

Your suppose to dust every feeding that’s fine sry for your lose ... use the uvb tube instead of the bulbs

Whoa all that in 24 hours? I had no idea overdusting with d3 calcium killed THAT fast. That's wild.

Like one of the previous users said getting a t5ho for a better uvb source would be a good idea. Sorry for your loss

If you dust with d3 everyday, your cham will end up with the same fate.
I don’t know about that. It depends on the supplement being used, and even then, it seems to be a gray area. I can’t imagine based on the OPs lighting that the cham was getting much D3 through UVB. I believe Reptical with D3 that the OP was using has about the same D3 as Repashy Calcium Plus that the Kammers use at every feeding and report no noticeable health affects.

I didnt realize it had such a low D3. I also shouldnt have provided such a blanket statement. I retract my previous comment! Lol

@JASON & BOSS Please fill out the help form that @AmandaS provided with detail. There are multiple husbandry issues that I can see looking at the image. We can give you feedback to make your next experience a success.

As far as the calcium with D3 if this is given at every feeding then yes you can end up with D3 Toxicity which in turn causes organ failure. UVB lighting providing D3 is totally different then our supplementing it and what their body does with it. With D3 conversion from light the body makes what it needs. But when we over supplement it causes the calcium to be pulled from the bones which then gets stored in the organs this is what causes organ failure.

I think the issue was that the OP was using the calcium with vitamin d on top of the multivitamin which also had vitamin d in a similar amount. All in all was about 45,000 IU/kg of vitamin D at every feeding when combined by my calculations which i agree is excessive.

OP How long did you have this cham? NONE of the husbandry problems being discussed would have killed a healthy cham within a day or two! There would have been a more gradual decline. If your cham did crash that quickly something else was seriously wrong. A necropsy might tell you more and the breeder might also want to know. Please clarify...fill out the help form.

It doesn't really work like that.

If he used half 1 supplement that had 23k IU, and another that had 22k, its only like 22.5 IU/KG.

You don't add those together.

I dont think OP killed this cham in a day or 3, which is how this is sounding With the vitamins. We need them to clarify how long of a time span this all took.

Right. Op didnt say this happened in 24hours. I beleive they said they would post requested pics within 24hours.

I think they did.

He said "on order" instead of "In order" is all. I think they meant, those pictures were taken over a 24 hour period, and are in order.

He wasn't asked for any pics, when he said that. The fact the breeder is replacing the animal, and his wording makes it seem like this was a Chameleon he had for a day or 2. At least to me, and apparently to Carlton too.

No way one feeding with D3 killed this Cham, obviously something else was drastically wrong.

OP fill out the husbandry form and missSkittles will get you straight.
Ah thought so, otherwise we'd be seeing many more "my chameleon died the day after" type of posts around haha

Why don't y'all just wait for the OP to respond and clarify. To me reading it makes it sound like he took those pics in a 24 hour period not that he had the cham for 24 hours. They even say dusted daily was their biggest mistake... Which common sense tells me that means that they had the cham for more then one day.

It took me that long to get accepted I did try ! He was great to me but I’m a beginner so maybe the signs were unclear ! I had him 10 days ! The breeder is helping me allong properly and sending me a replacement even though it was definitely my fault
