Lucy the female veiled just disappeared

Gideonus, The Thread poster. Hey I statred a thread last weekend Called "Great Escapes". I would really like for you to add this to my Thred. I love it, I just hope the little one surfaces. If so you can add your conclusion there and here also?

Thanks, Mike

I agree with some others. My guess is that she was in the original bush. It is AMAZING how they can make themselves so thin that they line up with even a thin branch. And also, when you lean this way and that to look for them, they actually lean the opposite way and keep themselves lined up with the thin branch and you not see them.

I would continue to check your back yard and then the outlying vicinity. She can probably survive the cold for quite sometime.

Lucy is still AWOL

it's now the second day and I looked again, and still no Lucy. Thanks for the suggestion of using binoculars to scan the 40 foot white fir tree or the palm tree.

Oh, and the "friend" whose cham I was babysitting is actually an 8th grade science teacher, and Lucy is the class chameleon (almost sounds like class comedian). And now the kids are really pissed at me. They think I'm a cham murderer.

One poster said that I shouldn't underestimate veileds ability to survive. But the last couple of nights have been in the low 40's (F) and windy; one of those cold windy San Fran nights. Could she survive that kind of abuse, especially if she's up a tall tree and getting pummeled by an icy wind?

Anyway, I'm gonna check everything again tomorrow and do the binocular routine. If Lucy somehow shows up, it'll be like one of those stories of a cat that walked a 1,000 miles to where her previous owners had moved. Well, maybe not that amazing, but . . .

I hope you find her. And yes you would be suprised how hearty a veiled can be. I know you are up North, but I know a breeder who releases them in his yard and they survive fine through winter and summer here.

Chams aren't such magicians that they can come down from a comfortable bush, walk to the other end of the yard and climb up and over a 9 foot fence without the aid of climbing branches. OR?

Dont bet on it! :)

When I take Homer outside I know when hes had enough on his tree because he goes to the ground, and heads off to god knows where. Back to the cage!

I hope you find it, Best luck!

Have the teacher and kids do a field trip to your place. Bet that would locate her.

Do you have close neighbors? is it possible she was stolen?
Pet store up here had two jacksons stolen from it. Cant believe how low people will actually go.

I am sorry to hear about this. I hope she wasn't snatched by a bird... Good luck

Does the fence have slats that she might be able to get her claws through? I hope you find her, I would definitely try the flashlight at night. Good luck!

Since its going on the second, third day and the chameleon just vanished. It was searched for hi and low, i really don't think this is out of the picture. But you can live in denial.

Not me! For all I know its had its head chewed off by a cat, Im just saying (now ive done it too) why not let it be? Why spark bad ideas/imagination?

Its gone, Lesson learnt the hard way, Leave it be.

i agree with you. I dont like jumping to hasty conclusions. But you have to admit, it is something to think about. It is not out of the picture

It's pretty out of the picture. Chameleons are good hiders. It's unlikely even if it were alive that it'll be found by now. I'm not exactly sure it was caught by a bird or anything. I literally think it just.. ran away.

Yup, unfortunately, everything eats something, Thats life. I hope the person gets another cham and isnt so complacent. I never take my eyes off mine, There are birds here that will take a small dog!

This is one reason I'm very leary of taking my cham outside this summer. We feed the birds here and a couple hawks have caught on to this cool trick of an easy meal. I can see them fly in, and they'll hide in the trees waiting for the bird feeders to get busy, and pick off the smaller birds as they fly away from the feeders. I definitely don't want my cham outside to be seen by one that I didn't notice. Probably an even easier target than the birds.
