Hi there I just got a Veiled chameleon about a week ago however the petstore was not able to disclose age or gender. I was wondering if anyone could offer a little guidance! Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

That pet store needs to smarten up. This species is one of the easiest to sex...you can tell by the spur on the heel and the pattern on the body what the sex is. Male.

Your cage needs more branches and greenery.
If you answer the questions in the how to ask for help thread near the top of the health forum we can check your husbandry.

Thank you so much for your help, the petstore told me it was an adult female and I was just doing more research when I noticed the spurs on his/her back feet. Im just getting my cage set up so that is definitely top of the list!

It's better for you that it's a male...especially if it's your first chameleon. Is it your first? If you go back to that pet store I'd tell them how you can tell the sex of this species...it doesn't work this way for many species.

Cute name...for a girl! :) You can still can him that! He won't know!

I agree...that is one reason I started off with a male. And i hate to say it, but the people at the pet store don't care T-T. The bigger chains just sell to make money and don't really care.
haha Im not sure now, the pet store told me it was most likely a girl so I named her/him daisy
what about domino? lol daisy is still an adorable name

Yes it is my first! Thats why I really needed to make sure, I wish the petstore could disclose that information especially due to females laying eggs and such.
hahah thank you:) I think I might change his name but I don't know to what yet!

Welcome on here! The fake plants and Exo Terra vines need to be taken out and switched with veiled-safe live plants and live/safe fake vines (like Fluker's). Veileds will try to eat everything, so a fake plant is an impaction risk (which can lead to death). Exo Terra vines can cause eye issues if your cham rubs his head or eyes on it. For vines, make sure to never use Exo Terra vines, moss vines, or fake vines with leaves on them. Let us know if you have any questions and/or want the husbandry form posted on here, or anything else!
