Male Panther Cage size?

Hey guys I was wondering how precise do we need to be on the enclosure size?

I am considering grabbing a few of the Dragon Strand breeder cages. However they are 22x16x45, that is a tad smaller than the always suggested Minimum.

I would rather go with there 24x24x48 however they dont fit on racks .

I was considering building cages, however that is hard to "Match" Right now I plan for 2 chams and possibly breeding. However what if that explodes, also I could get baby cages to match adult ones (if I go that route in the future).

Am I overthinking it and that is plenty big? or is that way to small?

I think you could get away with that and be alright. I'm no expert but as far as i know you want 24x24x48 for adults. (that's what i have) I would wait for other opinions on this besides just me, like i said before I'm not an expert.

This cages were designed from scratch spcifically to keep chams, so there is ptobably a reason for every dimension.

Hi there, purely from my personal experience my panther loves to roam, he is in a 4ft long by 3ft high 2ft wide, he actually uses his horizontal space more than vertical, even with a viv at this size I would and will get him a larger viv, he is active and even then he still gets four sessions a day of walking around our living room on a myriad of ropes I've put everywhere. Well ya there is . The reason is you can fit 2 cages on a 18x48 bakers rack, or 3 on a 18x72. They are made for people that want tons and tons of chams. As space becomes an issue .

However you do make a good point. He is a breeder of quite a few species, he defiantly knows what he is doing. However as a larger breeder that space is a big issue for him, thus these cages.

Dude thats awesome . My plan for a custom was 30x24x48. I wish I could go as big as you, I do not have that kind of floor space however . If I stopped at 2 chams, (not sure I will) that would be 8ft for just those 2, plus if I do the breeding thing, another 8feet for that. Thats already 16 feet of floor space lol. Add 2 more chams, (I kinda want a red panther and a Nosy Be males) now we are at 24. If I decided to throw a mellers in to the mix (I really like Melllers) they actually need that size there is 28 ft floor space .

Plus breeding will take quite a bit of floor space lol. If you are going to do it do it right like this

I will likely start out with the compacts, there a little taller and wider. So I can split chams up a tad 8 cages to a rack. So I can split the babies in those then later add one of those thats a total of 32 cages, some bigger for hold outs.

You think that's tricky! I'm wracking my brains trying to work out were I can keep a pair of Parsons!! No go- jutst dont have the space to do them justice- i want to give them a room's worth but just dont have that available- tears have been shed! but I really like animals to have as much room as possible so I'm going to have to wait. I see pics of bearded dragons in 3ft vivs and iguanas in 5 ft vivs which is a real shame but that's how it is. Need to win lottery. Good luck with your cham, my panther is the love of my life. Well I was thinking that maybe it would be okay for a smallish cage *IF*. If I put up a corner of the room as a free range setup. A large free range area, where I can put them 1 or 2 at a time and let them chill there for a day and take turns. That way they get a nice big area for them on certain days, and the smallish cages the rest of the time.

Ya parsons need space lol thats for sure .

I have a another question to anyone that reads this that uses DS breeder cages. For females laying bins, how do you do the drainage. I understand and Agree that they should be in there 24/7 but how do you add drainage to that setup?
