Male trying to breed with another male

I work at a pet store. Which is where I aquired my 2 veileds. They are between 6 and 8 months old. They were the only 2 in the habitat and one day we observed them mating. They were purchaced by a customer a few weeks ago and returned about 2 weeks later because the kid didnt want them anymore. So I decided to bring them home. I did my research after the fact due to it being a rather impromptu decision. They are both doing fine. Except I have noticed that both of them have the little notches on their back feet indicating that they are both male. Yet I personally saw them mating before they were originally purchased. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Maybe it was not mating but fighting. Chameleons should not be kept with other chameleons. I would separate them as soon as possible. Just seeing another chameleon across the room is enough to stress the lizards out.
