Me female is mean.

I am a first-time chameleon owner. I have a female veiled. She is a juvenile but I do not know how old she is. I got her from the pet store. When I went to take her out of her cage to clean it she puffed up real big and hissed at me and look like she was going to bite. So I just left her in there and work around her. But today I had to take her out of her cage to arrange some things. I was worried she was going to bite me so I used a glove. Sure enough she popped up real big and bit the glove and hissed. She also had almost black stripes and dots all over her never quite seen her like that. The people at the pet store told me not to hold them know because the stress could kill them. Don't know if I should just let her be mean and chilling her cage. Or if it would be best to try and tame her. What do you guys think?

How long have you had her? She might need some time to adjust. Some chams just don't like being handled at all. But I'd suggest just sitting near where her cage is. Don't stare at her, just start doing things around the cage so she gets used to your presence. Also, try hand feeding her. She'll learn to associate your hand with something good and no longer fear it, so when you have to do cage maintenance, then she'll ignore you. Just a suggestion.

Thats very normal. She could get better over time but def dont hold her unless you absolutely need to. Dont chase her around the cage. Give her time time to adjust and just see you walking around without bothering her. Could take several months. Hand feed her her favorite treats like hornworms. Mine got better after i began letting him roam free out of his cage. But not everyone can do that im sure.

Thank you for the feedback. I have only had her for about 2 weeks now so I will definitely give here some time to adjust.

When I got my male Cham, Yoyo, he was just like this. He hissed and bit me when I was trying to clean his cage, the little stinker. After about a month and a half he warmed up to me and started eating from my hand. Unfortunately chams are nothing like dogs and take soooooo much patience to get you to like them. In my free time or when I'm doing homework I let him out of his cage to sit by me and it helps

Veileds are notorious for being mean. A bite from a female, even full grown doesn't hurt, you shouldn't need a glove. Lol. A male bites hurts though
