She is back in her tree and drinking like a fish!:)

And according to my GF the eggs are white and there are a ton!

Well, I guess you can be sure this one is a female. LOL I'm glad it went so smoothly. Is this a CB chameleon? Any chance these are fertile? I guess you'll know soon enough.

some info

Lenny is WC... We got her in august from LLL.... soooooo if she had a last minute love affair before her vacation to America I am not sure they will be fertile. I called Mike Monge (FL Chams) he said they can retain sperm up to a year. He also said if they are white they are more than likely fertile.... I personally haven't seen the eggs yet but from the pics and from what my GF and her brother in law saw... they are white.

Tomorrow I am going to get some Vermiculite from Steve Sims and dig up the eggs. Right now I have a heat lamp keeping them warm... gonna change it over to a ceramic heater so Lenny can catch some ZZZZZs a little better. Right now shes conked out even with the glow from the Brute bin. Was a long day:rolleyes:.

There is only one time (that I know of) where Lenny and Henry (who I am pretty sure is male) were alone together.... But Henry was all the way at the other end of the range fired up and NOT happy about Lenny being in his 'space'. There could have been other times but I am pretty sure Henry wasn't tolerant of Lenny being near by. Henry even fires up when he sees not so little anymore, Pat and little Chris.

It all started with a 'ok he wont stay in the range.....'. then today i was kinda in the 'ok... to the bin' mode. I picked her up. put her in the bin and pulled up her vine so she couldn't get out. I told my GF (who was home all day) when you get up check on her.... if shes waxing the walls of the bin pull her out.... if shes digging..... let me know'. So... I get a text.... 'shes digging, but I'm not sure if its to get out or to lay eggs....' so i said 'leave her alone...' a couple hours later 'shes got her butt over the hole she's dug'. then 20 minutes later there were enough eggs under her to see them... so she took a pic and emailed it to me. My GF was supposed to be going out with her mom who was in town and her brother in law.... Lenny crashed there plans and they hung out at our Apt. while my GF checked on lenny. They decided to go over to my GF campus and take a walk (CSUF). I asked her to put a lamp on the Brute for heat and to drop the vine back down into the bin. When they got back Lenny was in her tree and the eggs were covered. She drank FOREVER. I hooked up the mister to only spray in her range and put HOT water in the tank. She was misted for over an hour. Right now she is asleep, she looks sooooooooo thin.

I can't wait to dig up the eggs!!:D

Here are some more pics...

Congrats Kevin! You'll have the most Meller's yet! Can't wait to hear the total egg count. I'll guess 55. :D
She did such an artistic job covering them up it'll be a shame to dig them up!

Thanks!

LOL we'll have the photo to remember the artistry;):D

HAHA and I think Kristina has the most! hahaha She has been a great help to me through my Melleri 'issues'. Her website is great! MD... or.. MelleriDiscovery.com

I'll guess 75 eggs. It's so funny how they will try to "dress" the pit once it's covered up. With those 3 leaves. That's all she had to work with, but she wanted the area to look undisturbed.

This is so exciting. Your clutch- I do hope they're white- and then our guys mating last week! We'll hopefully have a clutch incubating in a few months if all goes well. And perhaps both of us will have hatchlings this fall and winter. If so then, with the other clutches developing, this is shaping up to be another good year for Meller's.

This is a very exciting year for Melleri. People saying they couldn't be kept........

I by no means think they are easy or for everyone. They need lots of room, food and water and persistent attention.

Melleri are great chams and really seem to react to others around them, its great! Pat will watch me at my computer... Henry ALWAYS has one eye on me. he will sit so that he can see me between leaves and if he can't see me he'll lift his head and peak over leaves..... I love it.

I seriously encourage ANYONE thinking about melleri to talk to another melleri keeper before taking the jump. Reading and reading and talking and more reading is the way.

Edit: BTW... I can't sleep im so excited! hehehe and thanks guys! it really is exciting. My GF spent her whole day keeping tabs on Lenny. When we went to dinner I could tell her sister, brother in law and mother were annoyed a bit... (because they had plans) LOL but WHOOOOOOO cares?! hahaha I find it funny how little people care about our hobby. It's ok that not everyone gets it. :D

Do you maybe have any tricks to differentiate between females and males ? I often think about keeping one or two melleris, but when I do this I want to keep a pair of them

read, learn, read, learn......

All I can really say is read up on Melleri Discovery.

There is a lot of info there.

If you do keep Melleri be ready to commit some room for them. These are big animals. Henry is 24" total length... he needs room to stretch out. Lenny is like 19" long. They can't be cooped up in small cages, especially if WC.

As for 'tricks'... you can watch the melleri defecate' Henry has been kind enough to let me photograph his 'junk'. Lenny has NEVER let me see her poo. You can watch the color of them as well. looking through the melleri discovery you can see pics of known males and females. Both Lenny and Henry match up with pics on the site.
