Come one Kevin let her babysit an egg as the reward!:D;)LOL JK guys... I can just see Kevin next year bringing his CH/CB? Mellerii to the SBCK meetings. I have been so busy...and so bummed on not making it the last few months.:(

Good number. Very good number. If you have a good hatch rate, you will be glad you don't have any more than that! Calyptratus may be hungrier little monsters, but they are easy to sell, and sturdy at an early age. More than 30-40 of them at once is a pain.
More than 40-50 melleri eggs will be more "fun" than I'd want. I'm hoping to get 50 or so when or if I do get any! Not much more, not much less.

In the end, I'll be happy with any.

I found the worst part of baby melleri was the flies - most companies were pricey, and they didn't last long.

Then I found Spiderpharm they are amazingly cheap, and I got more flies than I could have used for 100 baby melleri for like $5.00. Seriously - $5.00 for about 5,000 fly pupae, which will last over a week (warm them up to hatch them). you could feed endless grops of melleri on them for just $5.00 (plus shipping) a week.

Flies are not fun to breed (If you saw the dirty jobs episode, where they featured Spiderpharm, you would probably not want to get into breeding flies...), and they are a must for melleri.

The other companies I used, when Ardi was young, were much much more expensive - it was $20 or so for a few hundred pupae, I think... shipping was pricey.

Another good thing - they'll be hatched in 3-5 months. Can't beat that.

Congrats Kev, Thats going to be alot of babies! :)

How long do thier eggs incubate for anyhow? I don't know much about the species, other then they are on the larger end of the spectrum. Good luck with those eggs!!:)

Awesome news! I sure hope you get a bunch to hatch! Have you tried candling them? I believe they may already show vascularization because of the long gestation. The incubation is relatively short, I believe only 5 months or so.

Thanks Kent!:)

I was talking with Mike from FLChams and he said 3 months if kept at 78*. He said he has had the best luck at that temp.

Here is a vid of Mike's hatching from last year... I bet Pat and Chris are in there somewhere.... Link

I am shooting for 76ish. I don't wanna rush it.

Kristina said 68-78* is about the range you wanna keep them at. This should give you 3-5 months to get ready for hatchling mania!

I want to shoot for a warmer temp because I can maintain that without issues. It is hard to keep temps down in my Apt. so I rather fight cold with a heater than fight cold with.... well A/C isn't cheap and is hard to cool my entire place lol.

I have not tried to candle the eggs... Maybe I should with a couple.

Here was a funky one...

If they didn't get so dang big I would consider it! And after reading about the flies maybe I'll skip that babysitting job! Spiderpharm is a good place to get fly pupae. Good job with the photo documentary Kevin! We've missed you Joe at the meetings.

hehe shes been kinda greedy
Cool! Nice soaker hose. :) She has a great appetite. The only melleri I had would have me standing there for 5 to 10 minutes with that look on his face but still wouldn't shoot for it. Do all of your melleri eat fast like that?

It depends. I offer an item and wait for him or her to smack their lips. If I get the lip smacking I hang the item out. Sometimes I get lobe flapping and I remove the item as directed :D

Congrats on the eggs! That is super exciting!!
