I saw the other forum like this so it got me wondering if there are chameleons in mexico? thanks

Of course if one were to introduce chams to the land, they would probably thrive in parts of Central America

Not indiginous to Mexico. However, they would probably thrive in the costal areas (see Jackson's in Hawaii). I do have a friend on Cozumel that has a female veiled that is doing great!

That would be really cool to have F. Pardalis in the wild here in North America. Chances of that happening are slim to none with the price of them. If they were cheap, I'm sure it would happen. Heck, I'd release a few clutches of them in the wild if they were cheap enough. Not here in ontario, but places like California.

ha! that statement should open a can of worms. i think exotic animals should not be aloud in the wild. I am actually surprised so many are even aloud in the USA

careful chameleontario :D
like Justin said.. it'll open a whole can of worm.

Lol, If they did that it would be weird because you could just go catch one instead of buying one.

There is a whole thread about releasing chameleons into the wild. It's controversial and most members feel very strongly about it.

There are veileds in Florida, California and in Hawaii as well as Jackson chameleons. There have been other species reportedly introduced too.

I imagine releasing chams into the wild would not be a good thing. It has been a real problem in Florida with people relasing iguanas and them thriving in the wild. Now releasing iguanas into the wild in Florida is illegal.

Speaking of the topic, did you see that the cold weather is causing hibernation and they are dropping from the trees? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22509514/

Sorry, I didn't see the original thread because I was preparing to travel for the holiday and did not keep up on my reading.

I now read through it and the underlying message is the same. Releasing into the wild is a BAD idea. Thanks, Chris!

Someone posted about some chameleons in Southern California. They didn't want to give up the location. I think it would be neat to see chams in the "wild" but So Cal isn't where they belong.
