Microwaving Drinking Water?

hey yall, my cham likes warm water(like most) and i dont have a good way of heating up the water besides putting the whole plastic sprayer in the microwave for a minute.

could this be a potential problem? or is microwaved warmed water ok?

trying to find the easiest way to obtain warm drinking water conveniently

Microwave is fine.
Be sure not to have the spray head on the bottle when you put it into the microwave.
Trust me, you will melt the o-ring.

i just use really hot water from the tap.
hot because it turns cold really fast when its mist.

True indeed, my cham shys away from misting...or so I thought. Until I caught him lapping up the run off from the vine. As long as the water is warm from the tap it should suffice.

I just use the hottest tap water. There is a link on cruzinchameleons.com that has some info on microwaves. According to this link a healthy plant was killed by microwaved water in one week. Just some food for thought.

hot/boiling water kills plants....thats how we kill weeds in our driveway so temperature of microwaved water is important but IMHO not likely deadly to chams...or humans----can you say tea:eek: my wifes been microwaving for years

I sure can say tea.:) I microwave all kinds of crap. I did think that link was pretty interesting though so I thought I would share.

Do not use the microwave to heat plastic containers!
that means that your spray bottle is a BIG No No.

I would fill up the bottle and then leave it by the damn cage
or better place it close to the heating unit (if safe) when you're not using it.

My preference is to let them drink via a wide mouth glass + spraying.
none of my animals have a problem with that and they're all great.
veilds learn to do this very easily leaving them 100% hydrated
on their time frame, not yours.

The only problem I've had is that they tend to use it for bomber practice.
The don't drink from clouded water if you change it every 2 days.

Sorry, after i reread my post i can see how my attempt at humor could be misunderstood.....I hope i did not offend

No problems with me Mczoo :)

it's just that I kinda know a bit about the chemicals
that can get leached out of a plastic bottle when energized...
some are a bit nasty (depending upon the plastic type).

anyway room temp water works great -just plan a bit ahead.

I wasnt offended. I do see your point. There is also a link about flouride on that site. It is considered poison in some countries although U.S. and Canada still use it. Lots of people use tap water for there chams. I did before I moved to a place with a well. Anyway the point is that flouride I dont think has resulted in the death of a cham nor microwaved water again that I know of. But they have posed harm on other things. I was just throwing that out there for another perspective. Again if your talking about offending me it wasnt done.

I enjoy healthy eating and natural supplements (for humans specifically). I have done a fair bit of researching and reading and this is what I have learned:

The microwave itself, surprisingly was not initially intended to heat up the foods we eat. The discovery of the microwave occured during an experiment. During this experiment they were using the micrwave to expose different things to radiation. In the process they realized that it could also heat things up. This is where we draw our use from the microwave. Personally, I find it slightly urking to use an instrument to heat my food, who initial purpose was to expose things to radiation. We know the effects radiation has on humans who are directly exposed to said waves. For this reason, I have chosen to elminate the microwave from my house completely and substitute it for a microwave oven which uses an element to heat things as opposed to radiation waves. Needless to say these waves have been proven to cause cancer in humans when directly exposed (the current reason we use lead aprons when we get x-rays)

Sorry for this rant, I swear I have a point. I have also learned that certain plastics, when put in the microwave can secrete harmful toxins in the plastic into the fluid possessing the container. Personally, I also have a bit of an issue putting said chemicals into a cham environment.

With all this being said I am not saying any of this is fact. It is just the result of research that has been done. I thought I would share it with you. Research further and draw conlusions for yourself.

i got the humor and i think it was plain and clear.
you do not need to be sorry.

i meant humor as well.
its just i dont like to use digital smiles.

but i still dont like microwaved water, i have to boil mine.
there is just something about it that makes me meh it.

thanks for the input, im use spring water not tap water for misting and dripping. but i think i will try leaving the bottle outside all day or leaving it on my water heater if it doesnt melt.

on a side note, i found this great mister on ebay for $12. its called a personal misting system and comes with a super fine mist nozzle, clip for cage and all. its perfect!!!

I get my water from the tap as hot as possible,
After testing against my own skin the mist comes out nice and warm,
My male used to bolt before warm misting, Now he comes towards me to get sprayed...

i have noticed the same thing with both my Jacksons and my bearded dragon (if the waters warm they like it) I stopped using my tap water after watching my male Jackson die. It seemed like the more i watered him the more dehydrated he got. I am sure it was coincidence but the only theory i could conclude was the chlorine in the water was an issue. my vet felt that was unlikely but ever since i have left my water out overnight.....yes i have chlorine no chloramine(sp) or what ever other ingredient the water systems are using. i am currently thinking of setting up a glass fishtank to hold my water and putting a heater and filter on it so the water is warm, and moving to keep from becoming stagnant

(yay its crazy:eek:)

Yeah,
I messed up a few pump hand misters trying to incorparate a Tank heater in it.
I can't seem to get the plug (Used crazy glue, epoxy and sillycone lol) to no avail, It pops after just a bit of pumping
