Microwaving Drinking Water?

Concerning using hot tap water, I prefer not to for the same reason I always start with cold water when cooking for myself. Most of us have 'ancient' water heaters that probably have all kinds of sediments, build-up of minerals, etc in them that are getting mixed in with the water as it is heated and stored.

seems a little excessive.lol. but if i get tired of buying spring water im gonna go buy one of those brita water filters and crank my water heater up a bit so i can get hotter water out of it. im sure that would be ok.

be carefull about cranking water heater up particulalrly if you have children. hot water from heaters that are cranked up burn lots of children yearly in US

I found this on the University of Michigan website (very difficult to say for a OSU fan but:

The following chart shows just how dangerous hot water can be.

Temperature Time to Cause
of Water a Bad Burn
-------------------------------------
150°F (66°C) 2 seconds
140°F (60°C) 6 seconds
125°F (52°C) 2 minutes
120°F (49°C) 10 minutes
-------------------------------------
You can see from this chart that if your infant or young child should come into contact with hot water, the temperature of the water would make the difference between whether he or she gets burned or not. If your hot water heater is set at 150°F (66°C) and your child comes in contact with the hot water for just 2 seconds, your child will receive a burn bad enough to require medical treatment.

FYI

Yay i am off the soapbox now:D

Well I was thinking that your real fear should be lead leeching out from the solder used in those days. The common perception was (is) that a "little won't hurt you" or that the mineral deposits will seal it over.
while there may be some truth to the minerals coating the insides of the the pipes... hot water tends to dissolve minerals back into solution.
ie. how's the lead taste?

just a little fyi
I drink bottled water myself
