All misting is done by hand here.
I use the pressurized flomaster that I purchased at Home Depot for about $7.
How many Chameleons do you have? (I only see the one veiled in your gallery)

i just recently got a blue bar panther but havent posted about him brad im keeping himon the low maby i will post picks and whatnot tongiht when i have time

has anyone every purchased one of these or does anyone have experience with this?

Note: Here are some facts related to that pump, followed by a small piece of personal opinion. Feel free to disregard the opinion, if you wish, but the rest of it is all fact.

They are small, industrial pumps that use a diode across the hot and neutral of the wire to make the piston move. It's similar to the way an aquarium air pump works (and sounds).

I have two of those pumps that I bought directly from the manufacturer. They are used in various food preparation and industrial machines that need to move water under pressure. I spent many hours talking with their applications engineer trying to come up with a cost effective way to sell them so they would be compliant with the UL specifications they provided (temp monitoring, current monitoring, shutdowns, coil not to exceed Class 100 specs, etc.). They're quality units and work well if they are designed into a system that monitors their temperature and current draw.

Obviously, this involves a lot more engineering than slapping a plug on the end of the wire.

They are not meant to be used like this and the company engineer didn't want to know about how they're being sold!

Personal Opinion
I can't believe that in today's extremely litigious society that anyone is selling an item that blatantly ignores UL's requirements like this, but hey, if they can sleep at night. Personally, I would be nervous wreck.

Thanks

Interesting, but good information. Thanks alot... I knew nothing about regulations on the pumps... I'll have to look into it!

Well, technically, Underwriters Laboratories just a company that writes standards and evaluates products, but they're kind of the word on product safety standards in the US. You won't find any TVs for sale that don't have the UL label (or an equivalent) on them because retailers wouldn't sell them.

I've been through two UL evaluations at two separate jobs. You know that "glassed over look" that most people get when you talk about chameleons to them? Imagine that times a hundred just listening to their engineers...and I'm technically oriented. :)

UL's engineers make The Geek Squad look like a bunch of preschoolers.

Go to www.bigappleherp.com and buy the pump and the misting nozzle $70. And go to a hardware store and buy the tubing, timer and a bucket. That's what I did and I love it. :D

This would be a good idea if you want to burn your house down

Buy a real misting system.... a system with a real pump... not a piston pump just waiting to start a fire the second it runs more than 5 minutes or runs dry.

Buy a Mist King.

Do you have a free faucet? Do you have drainage to outside? I suggest you get a "plumber" to hook up a actual faucet and then ask him to punch a hole through your wall near the chameleon cage and run a drain tube to outside. Do you have a landlord?:D Who cares? Go for it!

Looks like the pump that comes with the LLLReptile misting system and the Big apple misting system are the same. Does anyone know?

I bought a misting system about 6 years ago and I believe it is from LLLReptile. I have run it for more than 5 minutes at a time and I haven't had any issues. I am curious if someone can explain if these pumps are always a hazard or if they are a hazard only under certain conditions.

Thank you.
Michael

The main issue is running them dry.... but extended operating lengths can cause extreme heat build up. It isn't worth the savings to buy one of these systems, trust me.
