so i have noticed that my veiled likes more the mealworms than crickets ! he eats like 4-5 crickets max per day and mealworms he would eat all day !
he is almost 5 months
should i give him just crickets for a while and see how it goes ? i tried this yesterday and he only ate 3 crikets( i find it low per day ... so i dont know how to make him eat more) . when he seas mealworms he just goes crazy ...he really loves them
how can i make him eat more crikets and less mealworms ?
any ideeas ?
tnx

Stop offering mealies for awhile. Really not healthy to feed him a lot of them. Certainly not a good staple diet. He may go on strike but its like a kid wanting ice cream all day. Ya just gotta say no. Hell get hungry :)

my veiled stoped eating the small/med crickets around that age. he would only eat the largest ones and ignore the smaller ones.

try putting in some larger crickets to see if that helps

There are also other bugs besides the unhealthy ones you get at petco :) try ordering some bugs from online sources and get some roaches, hornworms, silks, ect.

in my country all i can get are crickets( not allways ),mealworms and some bugs .... ill try to get some bugs ,damn i hate where im from !!!!

ok ,i will try tomorrow and see if he will eat

If you stop offering mealworms he might decide not to eat much for a while because he wants his worms back :D. My Veiled went for 2 weeks eating nearly nothing because I wanted to make sure he would eat his crickets like a good boy............... Mine was 11 months old when he went on his strike though, if they are a good size then they can last for a long time with no food.
If you offer him nice tasty crickets that have good gutload inside them then he will eat them when he gets hungry enough though :)

damn he doesnt want to eat the crickets but well when he will get hungry he must so o will wait a couple of days and see what happens ! he pooped like crazy today , normal and urates are whiter than yesterday :D

Silkworms, Hornworms, Grasshoppers and Roaches are much better if you have access to them. None of mine ever really liked crickets. It is a pain when one of the staple diet is rejected. But if he is hungry yet healthy he for sure will eat. As said before, mealworms have too much chitin. Very hard to digest.

i cant get silkworms and wax or horn... i barely can get crickets, but i will buy some roaches and go hunt for locusts ! but it aint worm enough to hunt them in the wild .... he just eat 2 crickets now

Keep the dubia roaches at warm temperature 24-35 C. Make sure you have some males (the ones with wings). And they should breed fast at those temperaturs. Feed them oatmeal and veggies and they will make a great staple feeder for your Cham.

ok so till now he ate today 4 crickets medium size,2 from cup and 2 from hand!i just ordered some dubia that will arrive at the end of this week

I personally don't feed mealworms. I see them as junk food. Same thing as wax worms and things like that.

I feed a variety of veggies, crickets, dubia roaches, blue bottle flies, moths, and phoenix worms/soldier flies. It keeps em nice and healthy. a balanced diet is a need, not a want.
