Ive had my sweet veiled chameleon for over a year now and she has just recently started gaping her mouth when she basks. Im sure it's not because she's hot, because she's free to move far far away from her heat lamp and she usually does when she wants to explore. I haven't heard any popping coming from her either so I don't think it's a respiratory problem. I'm worried because she's never done this before, in all the time I've had her. Could it be something she ate? I had to give her a pothos as her plant in her habitat which I read can't be good for the chameleons to eat in large amounts so I try to make sure she's not munching on the leaves too much. Could her eating it be doing this? I read it's natural for veileds to gape their mouths when they bask but she also has been keeping her mouth open when she's nowhere near the heat. If she did this from the very beginning I wouldn't be worried, but this is a new behavior. I try my best to keep her happy in my care so please forgive me if these questions are dumb. I just want her to live a long and happy life.
